Concerning Noise from Resmed 10 Machine

Post by matthewb » Sun Mar 22, 2020 3:15 pm

Hi All! Im new to the forums. I've been on sleep therapy since July of '19. I had a sleep study done and was told that my AHI was 55. I use the machine every night for at least 8 hours. My AHI is now down to readings ranging from .8 AHI - 2 AHI. I got used to the machine and feel like maybe I sleep better...but ever since starting I've been struggling with breathlessness all of the time. Anyways that's a side note.

Last night my machine started making this weird whining/whirring sound. I did everything that I could to figure out where it's coming from but can't seem to figure it out. It's not the humidifier reservoir. It almost sounds like it's coming from inside the unit. It's loud enough that it is disrupting mine and my wife's sleep now. Any thoughts?

Here is a link to a video showing the noise.

As soon as possible notify your equipment supplier about the strange new noise.

These machines do up and fail. Motors or fans do run into trouble.

Okay, thanks. I'll see if they are open tomorrow. Are they generally under a warranty for a certain amount of time? I literally just had to send off $300 to pay it off about a month ago when my insurance changed and they refused to continue paying the monthly amount for it.

ResMed has a 2 year warranty on their machines providing you haven't been using the SoClean device which ResMed believes could be compromising the machines and if you have that opens up a whole new can of worms since they just announced this change to their warranty in Feb of this year.

Make sure the Humidifier is seated properly. ResMed 10's are notorious for making weird sounds if it's not in correct and not shut all the way.

Remove it, then push it back in.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yes I know of the sounds you are referring to. I occasionally have those fitment noises. But this is 100% not that. Those fitment noises go away when I take the reservoir out and put it back in. No matter what I do to the machine this noise won't go away. And it sounds like it's coming from inside the main unit. :(

I listened to the sound on the video, and it sounds SO WRONG! Hope you can get a replacement quickly, easily, and at no cost.

I just went through this with my machine, which is about 2 years old. It was too loud to manage sleeping (even with all of my noise dampening tricks and a loud white noise machine) because the sound is so annoying... and I figure the motor wants to fail, so I bought a new one on Craigslist.

This is my second Airsense 10 to fail before it was 3 years old. Grrrrr. It’s still cheaper to buy barely used machines on Craigslist than to pay my copay. Now I have 2 spares that sort of work. The other has a humidifier fault.
