Pulmonary function and coronavirus

Post by Awakeanddreaming » Sat Mar 21, 2020 11:17 pm

Hello again, i hope everyone is safe during this crisis.

I've decided to ask for advice here because I've hard a very difficult time contacting my doctors for advice on the matter:

I recently had a pulmonary function test done at the request of my doctor. I was told i may only have very mild COPD by the technician who preformed the test

However the doctor said i didn't have COPD but i have very poor gas exchange, she was concerned because i haven't smoked for more then a year. They thought this could be due to blood clot or anemia. They ordered blood work and found i have neither. So the doctor concluded it must be lung damage from years of severe un treated sleep apnea.

My question is does this make me high risk for complications of coronavirus/covid-19??

Should i be concerned?

Very frustrating, I've contacted my doctor several times and they keep taking my information and saying they will call me back but never do...

Thanks

It should be enough to get you on a short list for testing-- should you get symptons.
For your own peace of mind, stay away from public places.

You should be concerned whether you are or are not at an elevated risk, if not for yourself but for others who are. You don't want to be a carrier and propagate this. You can't change your personal risk level, nor the situation as it exists, but by following the recommendations you can protect yourself and contribute to preventing further spread. The sooner this can get contained, the sooner we can get back to normal but this will take a high level of cooperation from the population at large.

In home care for the elderly. I have to pay my rent or i will be evicted. The manager already passed out papers to the entire complex saying this

What is your new employer saying about how to mitigate the risk factors to not only its employees but their customers?
At a minimum they should be providing masks for all their employees who go out into the homes of any of their customers.

I don't know if your lung issues make you higher risk or not but anytime someone is unsure ....always take the road of using extra caution about everything you do. Common sense I would think. Treat yourself like you have it and don't want to spread it and treat everyone else like they have it and you don't want to catch it from them....extra, extra caution whenever possible.

Well, tomorrow is orientation so i will ask those questions then. I will take your advice in the meantime. I do have a mask, will wear it to work tomorrow.

Maybe, maybe not.
People die from lung cancer that never smoked in their life.

No sense it crying over spilt milk anyway....deal with today's problems. Knowing what did or didn't cause a problem from something we did or didn't do in the past doesn't change the present.

As far as Lung Cancer, which I didn't mention. To find answers, the past is the trail to truth. Sometimes Cause drives Effect.

Yes. Last week i was working a full time job then I was told not to come to work until i was tested for the virus...i didn't meet the criteria for testing and i don't qualify for unemployment because i was working through a temp agency.
I had a car payment due and they said they'd push the payment back but i had to pay a late fee. And now my rent is due next week too. I expect i will have to overdraft my account

So i was forced to seek employment. I plan to only stay home and go to work, i have plenty of food so i will not need to go to the store.

They have been screening everyone who comes in the doors at the in home care and i will push the mask issue. I will see how orientation goes. Im expecting they will take extreme caution. As will I.

Goofproof is not a doctor, but has been a patient--mostly impatient.
Please disregard his uneducated and prejudicial remarks.
He is suffering, and needs company.

No, he's just a mean old man that hates everyone and everything, and spews that regularly here, thinking that putting " " on the end of it makes it 'ok'. Then people here encourage his nastyness.
