Disable Wireless Data on ResMed AirSense 10 Elite
Disable Wireless Data on ResMed AirSense 10 Elite
I just got a new CPAP. It's an AirSense 10 Elite. I'm concerned about "big brother" monitoring my usage and therapy via the wireless connection and being able to change my settings. . Is there any way to disable this feature? Been using CPAP's since 2007.
Re: Disable Wireless Data on ResMed AirSense 10 Elite
Resmed uses the *anonymous* data to help make better algorithm's.
"Big Brother" doesn't give a crap about when you're sleeping.
If you got it through *insurance*, then they're going to verify your *usage* no matter what, or they'll take it back. Being concerned about the cellular modem is silly.

Here's a topic with an excellent teardown video that includes disabling the modem.

The problem is; the video is hosted by YouTube, YouTube is owned by Google, and we all know Google tracks your data. Simply watching it and you're enabling Big Brother.

And by asking about it, you're calling attention to yourself.
Don't you want to disable the transmissions because you don't want to sleep with your head next to all that added electromagnetic radiation?

I (and everyone I knew) just thought I was lazy. Then I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was 30.
Re: Disable Wireless Data on ResMed AirSense 10 Elite
If you bought the machine through insurance they track compliance..without the modem they can't. If you disable the modem, you void your warranty. No one can change your data without doctor's prescription... If this really bothers you turn on airplane mode.

AFAIK, it only transmits *AFTER* the sleep session is over.Mr. Snorestoomuch wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 4:47 pmAnd by asking about it, you're calling attention to yourself.

Just wear your Mylar nightcap!
And put the machine inside a cpap-sized Faraday cage.

I'm a strong proponent of data security. But I don't see significant exposure risk here considering the data that's passed, presuming you aren't reusing a login & password for your MyAir acct that you use for a far more important site.
I'm presuming that you don't have any usage tracking requirements from your insurance company since you mentioned turning off the modem. If so, you can use completely bogus personally identifying info when you create your MyAir acct. Go get a new gmail account just for MyAir with an alias name (like: MyAirTestUser007@gmail.com). If you are concerned with your current MyAir acct, delete it and re-create a new acct from scratch.
Also consider that if someone were interested in you so much that they would want to hack your MyAir acct -- which means they had likely already worked their way through all your other accts that are far more interesting (like your primary email, social media accts, etc) -- then they would have to be truly desperate for info on you if they are resigning themselves to the pitifully uninformative data in your MyAir acct.
As far as our "digital lives" go, our CPAP accounts are the absolute least of our worries. If by chance the Rooskies, Norks and/or ChiComs hacked into MyAir and stole all the data, every last bit & byte, I would still not rate that as a "threat" and I'm struggling to even rate that as a significant "nuisance" since the data is still intact on our memory cards.
I just don't see much to be concerned about unless you did something completely insane like using your bank login & password for your MyAir account. That would be pretty dumb though. That level of stupid *SHOULD* hurt. But I'm sure that's not the case. We all use a password manager (ie: lastpass, keeppass, etc) so we can easily use a different, strong password for each site, right?

Re: Disable Wireless Data on ResMed AirSense 10 Elite
I use 'passwordmaker', which doesn't store *anything*, it algorithmically creates strong, unique passwords for every different site you visit, using the master password, domain, possibly host, even userid, etc. and all you ever need to remember is one master password, which isn't stored anywhere.

Re: Disable Wireless Data on ResMed AirSense 10 Elite
I use as few sites as possible because passwords are a total pain.
Before I retired, we were forced to change our work password every 40 days.
I used a long word and replaced certain letters with 1's an 0's in binary sequence.
When I retired, I had many unused codes in my planned sequence.

If I do disable the wireless, the electromagnetic radiation will also destroy any styrene monomer phates emitting from the machine. And that's a good thing.Mr. Snorestoomuch wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 4:47 pmAnd by asking about it, you're calling attention to yourself.

I don't 'get' what one has to do with the other.

Re: Disable Wireless Data on ResMed AirSense 10 Elite
I found a thread while searching "how to disable telemetry on ResMed Airsense. It was very informative. I have had my machine almost 2 years. I would never try to disable it during the validation period, which is long past. But lately I have felt like it was being adjusted remotely, which I do NOT like. What better way to get me back in for an office visit, or another high-dollar sleep study. I am considering "pulling the plug".
