It keeps me Awake

Post by Palladini » Mon Mar 02, 2020 9:15 pm

Hello, I have Resmed Airsense 10 Machine and use Resmed Airfit F20 LGE and when I put it on and try to go to sleep, it is too loud and like 2 hours after I put it on I am still awake. It is not from leaking air from where it contacts my face. I am about 2 days from unplugging this thing and letting it rot away on my night stand.

As per people I talked to who use and praise their CPAP system, I never suffered any of those symptoms. I was not tired through, never woke up gasping for air, I looked up on the internet why folks get put on CPAP and I could not say I suffered from anything that was listed. I think this is the biggest SCAM going.

When I sleep, I roll over several times a Night, I sleep on my side and I roll around do to pressure points. The sleep study place no one should be rolling, but sleeping on their backs and I called them complete Idiots.

Did anyone else have this Problem?

Welcome to the forum, Palladini. Your machine is known for being very quiet. Could you describe the noise in more detail? Hum, whine, squeak? All the time, just when you inhale, off and on? Is it definitely the machine, or could it be the hose or the vent on your mask?

About the rest of your message—I am curious. Why did you have a sleep study? And what was the AHI the study reported?

The F20 mask can be noisy unless you have the quiet elbow. The noise is caused by air blowing out the vents at the front of the mask

Hello and welcome. A lot of us didn't get off to a grand start, so we can understand your frustration. Please do respond to the questions about the specifics of your noise issues. If the exact source can be honed in on you'll be able to get some targeted tips. In the meantime, is there any sound that could maybe obscure the noise a bit without interfering with your sleep, like a fan running, music on low, nature sounds?

About your sleep study. There are two times when many sleep apnea sufferers are at their worst - during REM stage sleep, and when supine. The hope in a sleep study is to capture a patient's potential worst case scenario. If not, they can't be sure your results are fully reflective of your situation. Since you are feeling skepticism, I'd suggest getting a copy of your report and seeing if it settles any concerns for you, or raises questions we can help you with. Lingering doubt can be detrimental to your progress, but it looks like you're already seeing that. Hope things turn around for you soon.

I suspect your "noise" is airflow in the mask. Possibly leaks, which can be very noisy. The machine itself is virtually silent.

Tossing and turning means the mask/hose can be a problem, especially at the beginning.

You were probably given a full face mask for no reason other than that is what they start almost everyone on. There are MUCH better options for those struggling with this therapy.

Regardless, there is help but you have to do some work for those here that have the experience to offer help.

Download Oscar to show exactly what your therapy is doing. Ask questions about masks, read past threads about them. Consider trying other options. There are masks with the hose at the top. Flop around all night and never touch the hose!

Yes, about my sleep Study. The night they took me in there to figure out the Pressures I would need, they put a Nasal mask on me, and no chin strap. I woke up a couple of time with my mouth open and air blowing out. How they ever figured out a Pressure of 20, I do not know. My study number you want to know is 11

If they had determined your pressure needs were 20, they would have given you a different machine. Where are you getting the 20???..I you have the AUTOSET as you indicated, the 20 is the max pressure setting. It is not the pressure they prescribed for you. Learn about your machine./ It has a ramp pressure, a minimum pressure and a maximum pressure.

Yes leaks are more nosier. I drove Tractor Trailer for near 40 years, and have slept in a Moving Truck many times and I fell that was a quieter thing to do.

I remember at the CPAP sales place here in town he was surprised it was to be set to 20 And there is no Autoset, only ramp up time.

Could you clarify: is your MINIMUM pressure 20?

Yes it is set 20 PSi or whatever that reading is. When they tested me, they took me in twice, second time to set a pressure, they put a Nasal mask on me with no chin strap. I awoke several times that night, air blowing out of my mouth, how they knew what pressure to check, is beyond me. One other thing, the first Night I spent there, at the visit with the doctor? (it was a Practical Nurse) and going over the report she said were some issues with me and mentioned 11 issues, and I said I know a Lot about computers and systems like that and tell, every time a sensor fell of, would it throw a error that shows up as Problem, and she said yes, and I said the sensor came off me 5 times, and when I woke up the Girls said 4 of them had come me. and she was pissed at me for outing them. I think when tried to get the pressure test done and got no result, she guessed at it.

I had a sleep study because of my Doctor in Toronto did a complete health check on me because they wanted to put me into a drug test and the fact the Pills I have to take give me diarrhea, and they did not believe that my pills caused this and they needed to know for sure. I had every test Known to Mankind done to me and when she heard there is Sleep Clinic in the town next to ours she said send him there also. I do not live in the GTHA, I live in Brantford. The sleep Clinic is in Paris
