Dreamstation Pro A-Trial Mode

Post by Whiskey-Romeo » Thu Feb 27, 2020 10:17 am

I have enabled the A-Trial mode and set the A-Trial days to 30 and experienced the best sleep ever. The provider mode instruction does not state what happens after the 30 days expire except for " . . . the text for this selection will appear in red font."
How is the pressure managed after the expiration day?

At the expiration of 30 day auto trial mode the machine will revert to fixed pressure cpap mode only.
The auto trial mode will be grayed out and no longer available.

There is a way to gain additional 30 day segments of auto trial mode but you have to totally erase all past data on the machine.
Not the thing to do when DME is still watching and needing proof of usage to satisfy any insurance compliance requirements.
Also, the machine can only be "reset" so many time before you don't get the renewed auto trial option. I am not sure but in the past the magic number was 5 resets on past models with this feature. After 5 resets the auto trial mode permanently becomes grayed out.
I would assume that with the DreamStation Respironics still uses 5 resets but I haven't heard from anyone or seen it in print.
Rest assured though....eventually no more resets will be available and the only way to use the machine is fixed pressure cpap mode only.

Thanks, Pugsy.

I suspected that was the case. I have since learned a benefit you get from the trial period is a clear picture of the optimum pressure setting for that point in time. I will most likely get the Auto version.

Good choice.
I was originally stuck with a single pressure machine, but I knew an auto
would give me the flexibility offered by the trial mode, but whenever I want, and as long as I want.
Turns out I NEEDED it all the time, and still do.
Machines with trial is kind of a cheat ---on the PATIENT.
It is to be avoided whenever possible.
