B pap machine not used needs home
B pap machine not used needs home
I tried the machine, but by the time I got it, we had decided I had to undergo surgery because the base of my tongue was too big for my small airway.
Can you advise me on how to go about selling this machine?
Thanks so much!

A full and accurate description with clear pictures of the machine, including runtime display, and your asking price would be a good place to start.

Keep it until you know for sure you no longer need it, odd's are in the future you will. Knives aren't very good at curing Sleep Apnea. Jim

Keep it!
Very seldom do "surgeries" solve/cure sleep apnea. Many times the person ends up back on a machine some months down the road. Sometimes at higher pressures.

Yes, hold on to it until you're sure you don't need it. Note that even if you weren't able to tolerate it before, it might work for you post-surgery!

This kind of surgery is seldom 100% cure for sleep apnea. Wait until you have completely healed from the surgery and have had a follow up sleep study to make sure you do not need the machine. Speaking from experience, I had UPPP surgery several years ago and currently use a bi-level machine every night.

Re: B pap machine not used needs home
I had tongue base reduction in India plus tonsillectomy plus palate reduction in Thailand. The tongue base was the last op I had? I'm 58 and slim .did it work.i yes it improved my chronic apnea but it's come back but not to the extent before the tongue base.if your tongue is blocking your airway maybe you should have it done.i had it done by robotic surgery.i was warned of the risks of severe swelling and it happened .they had to do a temporary tracheotomy. For 1 week it was hell. But it was worth it.i still think my jaw needs moving forward but I would not contemplate surgery for now.

Permanently butchered, but still has sleep apnea. I'm sorry your doctors did not know how to evaluate your airway before they started whacking.
Robots still cut flesh just like doctors. There is nothing magic about robots.

They are not necessary, probably not preferred, for tongue base reduction surgery. I looked into this with the ENT who did Gramp's turbinate reduction surgery. He does nasal surgery on tiny babies without a robot. He has no problem getting to the base of the tongue in adults.
But, once a facility spends big money on a robot, they will surely use it frequently to amortize the capital cost.

Curious about this! Saw an ENT Doctor last week and she said Turbinate Reduction may be a path but it usually doesn’t permanently cure and the procedure itself is very painfulChicagoGranny wrote:They are not necessary, probably not preferred, for tongue base reduction surgery. Re: B pap machine not used needs home
Totally NOT advocating surgery, but I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction in Aug 2017 before being diagnosed with severe OSA in Nov 2017 and starting CPAP Jan 2018. I found the surgery SIGNIFICANTLY increased the airflow through my nose, even immediately after surgery with the splints in. Once the splints were removed, it was shocking how much air I was able to take in! I did not find the recovery particulary painful. Uncomfortable, yes...I had splints up my nose

I'm so glad that cpap has done the trick.

OMIGOSH. So much bad information or poor communication.
Surgical reduction of the turbinates is permanent. They won't grow back.doesn’t permanently cure
With radiofrequency ablation to reduce the turbinates, the turbinates can grow back, and the procedure will need repeating.
What are you trying to cure? In obstructive sleep apnea, the blockage that causes apneas is between the base of the tongue and soft palate. The turbinates are in the nasal passage.doesn’t permanently cure
Surgical reduction of the turbinates will reduce stuffiness and congestion and, in general, make a better airflow through the nose. It might reduce mouthbreathing, and it will likely make the use of CPAP easier and more effective.
The procedure is painless - you are under general anesthesia.the procedure itself is very painful
You might have some pain during recovery. Gramps had no pain during recovery. They sent him home with a big bottle of codeine (old days), but he never took the lid off.
