HIGH NUMBER OF EVENTS AT START OF SLEEP

Post by bajeiceman » Sun Feb 02, 2020 3:32 pm

Hello,
I have been noticing a high number of obstructive apnea events occurring in rapid succession. It usually stops during the night and the apneas reduce to zero events. It has happened a few times now so I am wondering what is the cause. Please have a look at the attached screen capture of my last night's rest. Please have a look and let me know what are your thoughts.

Are you actually asleep when those events are flagged?

Can you zoom in on a few sections?

Watch the videos here.

Please include the stuff on the left side of the detailed report....it's important.

I have added some more screenshots for you. i hope they give the information you need.

What I did realise after your question was that there seemed to be two sessions. I must have awoken and went back to sleep...….really don't remember that  and here is what the charts look like when they are separated

You've not zoomed in enough. Did you watch those videos? They show the level of zooming in needed to maybe decide if awake or asleep.
If you aren't asleep when all those flagged events are noted....they don't count and have to be ignored.
You have to be asleep for anything flagged to be worth worrying about.

Did you read the thread I linked to? It shows how we like to see the detailed reports.

I am pretty sure I was sleeping when those events occurred.

Your breathing doesn't look like asleep breathing.

You've zoomed in a little too close this time but at least the breaths can be seen.

Asleep breathing flagged events here. Note the extremely rhythmic pattern and no irregularities.

Asleep breathing circled in red. The rest of it is awake/arousal related even the part with the flags.

Ok. Not sure what the take away is here. Did some checking of the machine when I got in from work this evening and found that the dehumidifier was not pushed all of the way in (must have occurred during reassembly after one of my recent travels). Anyway, let's see what happens tonight. Thanks for the thoughts though.

*humidifier*.

Cpap's can add moisture, not take it away

I point out things like that because they will confuse new people.

Hope that getting the humidifier seated properly fixes your issue!

I have a similar issue. I suggest that you consider your meds; those that you take in the evening.
For me, I believe that the cause is a common prostate relaxant....and even sal pametto might cause the same slowed breathing.
After an hour or two, the AHI declines (improves) to about 8. This at a starting pressure of #16.
For now, I have started taking the meds in the AM.
A female sleep tech suggested the medication idea, but no one has suggested the best way to keep
my scores from sometimes starting in the mid 20's to 50's (AHI).
I am beginning to think that maybe a bipap will help, but my HMO is
slow to go in that direction, due to costs. More patient pressure is indicated.

good luck!
