Amazing Im in LOVE with a MACHINE
I love my machine I slept, the whole night! I suffered for two years being told I had chronic fatigue syndrom.I swithced doctors had a sleep study got a machine and I am back to life. Its less then a week,I am so excited,I had to tell the world!
Hi there - I am going onto night 6 tonight - and I LOVE my machine too! What a difference it has made in such a short period of time - which I wasn't expecting. I was actually put on Paxil 3 years ago b/c they attributed my sleepiness to depression. Now, I am apt to get off of the stuff. I feel like a HUMAN again - actually hyper - for me anyways!
Thanks all for the support.

love my machine
I too suffered for about 2 or three years depression chronice fatigue recently I had a sleep study done and was put on a cpap. However yesterday I got my new machine with humidifier and I feel great. I can stay awake a whole day. I can't wait to be fully recovered and back to my normal life.
Good luck getting off the Paxil.
Unless you're one of the few, it's going to be hell withdrawing from that poison.

yeah, I guess it varies from person to person. A few years back when my GP was trying to find a solution to my sleeping problems, I was put on rather large doses of Zoloft and then Paxil. Neither one helped with my sleep (Duh! - OSA!), but while tapering off of each one I had the feelings of electric shock manifest itself several times throughout the day for a week or two...nothing big, just an inconvenience that I attributed to coming off of them...
Good luck, and remember to just take it slow when coming off of it!

Seems there is always someone who has to rain on someone elses parade around here.
I was on Paxil and went off without any problems. I didn't kill anyone, I didn't kill myself. I didn't have to wean off of it, so don't worry.
What is true for one person, is not necessarily true for the next. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT!!

Oh gosh, I hope you weren't referring to my post! I was just sharing my experience with coming off of it, which I meant to be positive...! You're definitely right though, what is true for one person, isn't necessarily true for everyone... sorry if my post came across the wrong way...Sleeping With The Enemy wrote:Seems there is always someone who has to rain on someone elses parade around here.

I wonder what the statistics would show of people, misdiagnosed, and mal treated, or incorrectly medicated because OSA never enters into the minds of most MD's?
Before being treated, I did not know what was wrong with me! I had a short fuse, I was allways tired! I fell asleep all the time! I remember having to pull over and sleep, just to make it home from work! I thought I had lots of issues like maybe Chronic fatigue syndrome. I used to go to the gym 4 days a week, and ride my bike up to 100 miles a week. I was in shape! Yet I had to eat ephedrine tabs and drink cofee by the 16 oz mug to get through life. After ephedrine became illegal in my state, I stopped working out, I gained weight and got fat...my OSA got worse. I came close to being written up at work for attendance!
The symptoms of OSA can be easily misdiagnosed as
ADD/ADHD
CFS
Food Allergies
Wilsons Thyroid Syndrome
Syndrome X/Insulin Resistance
Depression
Dementia(In the elderly)
Wonder how many people in this society are taking pills that they don't need that a CPAP would take care of?
Even my pulmonologist shares the same mindset! Having trouble with your therapy.....I'll write you a script for Provigil...no need to check your machine, or interface, your titration study tells me that your pressure is perfect!
Very soon I will dialog the things I went through and how I overcame them in another thread....I had a mask that did not hold the prescribed pressure and a machine that was not adjusted properly thanks to my DME, and If I did not take matters into my own hands, I would be popping down Provigil tabs and washing them down with Starbucks to cover up sleep events....not very different than where I started before diagnosis and treatment!

Great encouragement, first Guest, Jen (aka NeurosurgeryNP), and Tired-In-Tenn.
Joe A, you are right on target, imho. Doctors' ignorance about sleep apnea and the best things to prescribe for cpap treatment ... if the doctor even gets as far as thinking about OSA....pathetic.
Heart attack, stroke - leading killers in this country. How many doctors know what years of untreated OSA can do to set the body up for those catastrophic events?
The doctors - the "experts" in the healthcare profession!
Just think how many times we've read about the exhausted patient (or patient's spouse) having to be the one who says to the doctor - "What about sleep apnea, do you think I might have that?" before the idea of a sleep study EVER occurs to the doctor....if even then. Sheesh.

Rested Gal:
I was one of the lucky ones. On my company physical(Yes my company still does this!!!) I told the GP there....I am ALLWAYS tired!
He looked at my throat and up my nose with that little light thingy and said....Man your throat is raw and your sinus's are beat up....do you snore???
Yes I do! You May have OSA...you will want to have your primary physician send you for a sleep study!
The rest is history!
They say that about 10-15% of the population has OSA...I wonder how many undiagnosed cases are there that are being treated with drugs, or self medicating with OTC stimulants.

All of this is such great news. We all want to hear success stories.
Just today I was questioned by a co-worker about sleep apnea (I had revealed my problem to her just recently). She was very curious, wondering if her father might have it. I explained alot of it to her. But I also intend to print out some information for her from the internet, to help her understand it more and maybe pass on the information, as well as point out this forum. I think it important to help people understand about this, for there are many who don't even know about it.
Great news. I think your successes are wonderful...!!

I love my cpap also, I think it loves me too. Sometimes when I'm in bed I 'll glance over at it . It seems to be smiling . Like we just had great s@#. That purring sound it makes. There we are our lips touching in a long all night embrace. Then the dam alarm clock goes off and I realise it was only a dream. Just no respect among machines. I threw the clock against the wall so it could never come between us again.
Then I tried to go back to sleep to finish my dream. No luck. The adrenaline was rushing thru my body from my rude awakening. Maybe tonight I'll get lucky .
Sweet Dreams,
Ionizer

I guess when people post like this it just seems unfair to someone who is faced with trying to do something and getting negative feedback before they even have a chance to try.
It may have been hell for this person, but not necessarily for everyone.
