Health service wise - the UK is not that bad - but tend to not provide as much support that could be seen as idea - mainly because they have too many patients and not enough people or money - the device provided is free as part of the health service and replacement masks etc are also free - so no complaints from me

I just want to feel in control and to ensure I get the best out of the device - I was so tired i couldn’t function at times - and I know I was falling asleep driving

This has given me a new lease of life and I feel so much more energetic

I just worry when I have these spikes as I don’t want to go back to feeling the same way

And don’t want to have an accident or kill someone or myself because I fell asleep at the wheel

The cpap has meant I keep my licence

Hey Almost doc...If the machine you have listed is really the machine you are using..it's a brick..Limited usable data to monitor your therapy. If you are using the CPAP model, no wonder you don't know what is happening.

You need to "study" it more, since you've failed to understand anything significant.

as long as the maximum rate is within a therapeutic range.

'rate' is an inappropriate term in this context. The maximum pressure is unimportant for most people, and should be left at 20.

This is because the "auto" function studies each cycle of the flow curve, and looks for apneic "mouse bites" in the top of the inspiration. Whenever it sees these, it raises the base pressure (notwithstanding the expiration relief) until the inspiration cycle is full.

You clearly don't understand how the Resmed Autoset algorithm works.

Thus, the minimum rate you set shouldn't affect apnea events.

The minimum has a *huge* effect on apnea events, as well as the OTHER aspects of SDB, which you seem to be totally ignorant of.

I believe it is there specifically to establish a comfortable baseline while you fall asleep.

You're *completely* wrong, the "comfortable while falling asleep is RAMP, look it up, you might actually learn something.

As soon as you fall asleep and your throat is likely to start obstructing, it raises the base pressure to one that prevents the airway obstruction.

No, it never raises the base pressure.

So if you raise the minimum, all this will do is make it more difficult to fall asleep.

Wrong. In fact, having too low a minimum pressure makes it very HARD to go to sleep, because they feel starved for air.

Yes, please do come back and let us know how you're doing, and keep adjusting things till you're sleeping better. Not only will you keep your license, you'll feel better, and that's what we're all here for. (well, almost all of us).
