Increase in AHI
Increase in AHI
Hi all
I am a new user - and have been using a cpap (Philips dream station ) for 8 weeks
I had an AHI of 25 prior to use and since using the device it has reduced to an average of 5
Until a few days ago
3 days ago I noted that my AHI jumped to 16.1 when prior to this it was hovering around 2-3
I wondered if the issue was my mask so swapped it out since I had been given a spare
2 days ago it was 9.3 and yesterday 15.2
I don’t understand why it has jumped back up or if I should be worried
Is there anything I can do to sort this and bring it back to the previous levels

- Read the pinned topics
- Download OSCAR
- SleepyHead has been replaced by OSCAR, but instructions are the same
- Post graphs
Nobody can give you any solid advice base on your description.

welcome to the zoo! yes, there are things you can do. in fact, if you want to get the best results, you're going to have to take charge of your therapy. the experts here can help. but they are going to need data from you to figure out what you need to do.Jonty wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 11:26 amHi all

first, is your dreamstaion an auto machine? what i'm looking for here is if it's capable of transferring the data on the machine to an sd card. if that can happen, then we are in business. if you don't know if it IS an auto machine, someone will be along to help.
next, please read the link in my sig below this message. the one for newbies, that is. it will give you some information as to what you can do to help us help you. you'll want to go to your profile and fill out your equipment once we're sure of what it is.
you'll want to download oscar which is a free software program. that's linked in my sig as well.
i'm sorry i can't give you a straight out answer as to what to do to fix your problem. we are each of us different in the type of machine or mask or combination of the two. and the answers you seek may be impacted by the equipment you you use.
good luck!

Re: Increase in AHI
Has anything that could affect your sleep changed lately?
Medications.
Health problems.
Personal problems.
Job related.
A Lot of things can mess up ones therapy.
Answering those questions and doing what Dog Slobber/Zonker asked you to do will give the experts on here something to work with.
They most certainly will help you get to the bottom of this.
They are that good.
Good luck.

Re: Increase in AHI
Welcome to the forum.
We need a lot more and more specific information from you to be able to offer any ideas more than wild ass guesses (WAGs).
Please read this.
viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html
The very first thing we need to know is the exact model of your Phillips Respironics DreamStation machine (Samsung has nothing to do with it)...and if you are unclear as to model...post the model number and we can figure it out.
Model number is on the blower unit...starts with DSX and had 3 digits after it and some letters after the 3 digits.

Re: Increase in AHI
Thanks all - I have updated my info
The Philips dream station is model number GBX500S15
It is an auto with an SD card
I am new to this so don’t know much about the machine or apnea
Nothing has changed in the last few weeks that would cause the increase

Re: Increase in AHI
Okay....we need to know what kind of apnea events you are having and for that you need to use the available software.
All explained in the "newbie please read" thread.

Re: Increase in AHI
In the past I had
clear airway apnea’s of 6
Obstructive apnea’s 7
Last night
Clear airway apnea’s of 47
Obstructive apnea’s 39
I use the dream mapped software to get this info - if I need to use Oscar it will need to wait till tomorrow so I can install it

Re: Increase in AHI
DreamMapper gives the total number of whatever events you are having.
Pretty useless without knowing how many hours we are talking about but I can get sort of an idea.
I don't know why the dramatic increase in events when in the past they were lower and you say nothing has changed.
Something changed though..
Sleeping position maybe?
Something changed though...had to to have such a difference in results.
Really need to see the detailed reports from the software to get a feel for what might be going on and what to do about it.

Re: Increase in AHI
I have imported the graphs - last nights was down to 5.29 which is not as good as it has been - in the past (few weeks) it tends to vary between 1.71 and 6.33 - 9.31 being the highest i had early December
I get there will be ups and downs - but 2 days of high results worried me
I dont know if i should be worried - or not
if this is normal - then please tell me - as stated i am very new to this and trying to learn as i go
please let me know if anything else is needed
Jonty

Re: Increase in AHI
I would certainly raise your min. pressure to 6 or 7 and see if the snores lessen or go away. 4 is just too low for the great majority of people starting out and is the default low of the machine.
Re: Increase in AHI
ok - thanks - Certainly worth a try - I am unable to do this myself as the setting is locked - I will ask the nurse next time i go (feb i think i am due)

Re: Increase in AHI
It's not 'locked' - that's just the nonsense they tell patients to keep control and we all change our pressures routinely. You can get the clinical manual from Apneaboard.com or someone here who's familiar with your machine can help. There's no such thing as locked though so many of us have heard that. It's your therapy, your life, and if e.g. children can monitor and control e.g. their blood sugars, you should certainly control your condition.
Re: Increase in AHI
Are you going to bed on your side mostly but later in the night ending up on your back a lot?
Go here and request the clinical/provider manual. It explains how to get into the clinical setup menu area by doing just a couple of little button pushing things so you can access the area where changes can be made. There is no "lock"....there's just knowing how to do the secret handshake of button pushing to get past the appearance of a lock.
