Sleep perspiration
Hi I am new to CPAP and having difficulty with perspiring
I perspire profusely as soon as anything is put around my head , This is so severe when on CPAP I have to place a towel on top of mattress protector under my bed sheet , .I also have to change sheets and pillows every day , as they dont dry out during the day.
I have even on occasions had to strip the bed during the night and re make as it is to wet to sleep comfortably.
Has anybody else had this problem and is there any tips
Thanks

Re: Sleep perspiration
I have some hot nights but that’s always happened. I’m on night 8 tonight. Have you tried switching your sheet fabric? Turn air conditioner down at night? Cool pillow. Maybe even sleep with an ice pack wrapped in a towel on your head?

While having night sweats is one symptom of OSA, what you describe is something else and possibly a neurologist could give a hint.

Re: Sleep perspiration
I agree.
Night sweats could be a symptom of a disorder unrelated to apnea.
Some can be serious--best to see a doctor soon.

Re: Sleep perspiration
Hi all
Thanks for the responses , I have used both full mask and nasal pillows
I don't have any problem with sweating until i rap anything around my head . I even have the same problem when i wear a hat of any sort , it can be 0 deg C and i am still sweating
Take the straps off ,and I am fine , put the straps on and I am sweating

Re: Sleep perspiration
So, only sweating on the head?
Even in the daytime, with a hat?
Still a bit odd, compared to normal--doctor visit still not a bad idea.
Otherwise, a mask with as little headgear as possible.
Maybe a haircut?
Ditch the dreadlocks, bro.

Re: Sleep perspiration
I'm in Arizona and summer is hot! My husband and I bought a cooling memory foam mattress pad (blue gel made up of the stuff Nasa discovered) it was too cold for us. Brrr. You also might try one of the cooling gel memory foam pillows. There is also a mask that has no headgear. Called the bleep dreamport. There is a whole discussion thread on it here. Do please see your doctor to rule out anything bad first.

Re: Sleep perspiration
So, this isn't caused by sleep apnea or CPAP. From where are you sweating?troubled05 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 12:44 amI even have the same problem when i wear a hat of any sort , it can be 0 deg C and i am still sweating
How about putting a hat on in front of your family doctor for her to observe?

Re: Sleep perspiration
Thanks I will look into the bleep dreamport for sure .
I have demonstrated putting on a hat for my doc and he is scratching his head a bit , he is going to refer me to a specialist , but not surer who yet .
I am about 2 hours each way to get to docs and about 4 hours each way to any specialist services , so things move very slowly due to travel time constrainst.
The sweating is not heat related as I wake up freezing and still sweating .

Re: Sleep perspiration
Troubled05 - I have a similar problem of night-time perspiration when wearing my nasal pillows. Its very consistent in timing. I usually sleep fine from about 10:00 to 2-ish, at which time I wake up sweating. Often the sheets are wet to the touch, especially underneath me. I’ll get up for 5 to 10 minutes, put down a bath towel, lay down and try to go back to sleep, which happens between 3 and 4. Then up-n-at-em at 5:20.
I keep the humidity setting at 1, and sometimes zero. I haven’t figured out if that changes anything yet. My minimum pressure setting is currently at 4, max at 9. Usually my API is around 1.5 to 2.5 for the night, occasionally its less than 1, so I know the apnea-prevention is working. On rare occasions, its between 5 and 6, but those are very uncommon, and usually directly associated with a couple of snorts of good scotch or bourbon about an hour before hitting the hay. I live at 8960ft elevation, and we keep the room in the low 60’s at night.
I’ve tried sleeping without my CPAP, just to see what happens with the perspiration, and on the three or four nights I’ve tested, perspiration has been a non-issue, just like it wasn’t for many years. The first time it became a regular problem was shortly after starting CPAP therapy on 12/04/19. Of course, on nights when I don’t use my CPAP, I wake up feeling tired, often with a headache, but I’m not sweating.
So, I’m stumped. The CPAP therapy definitely helps with the fatigue that I used to feel, but the perspiration is becoming a problem. I long for an extended night of sleep where I wake up really refreshed with no headache; and I’m beginning to dread the 2:00AM wake-up session.
Open to suggestions...

Re: Sleep perspiration
Sleep uncovered, naked, under a ceiling fan, on top of a beach blanket.
Been there--no AC, three digit days, humidity in the 80's.
PR, I dare you to find a graphic for that!
