Hi I received a Resmed Air Curve 10 vauto (not sure what the last word is), I wanted a Bipap.
Hello,
What's the difference between this Resmed Air Curve 10 vauto and a Bi-pap machine? I really was expecting it to be so much better. Then I saw some company email advertisement by Resmed stating the Resmed Air Curve 10 vauto is a CPAP not a Bi-pap. I thought my doctor/sleep psychiatrist ordered a Bi-pap.
What is the real difference between a full-fledged Bi-pap and what I have . I do see that this version of CPAP is not a continuous air pressure on your face meaning it lets up during the exhale making it a little more in sync with natural breathing, but nevertheless I don't feel it all to be all that different.
I'm not sure what I'm actually detecting that feels in some way unnatural, because in order to fall asleep I am currently dependent on a 1/2 of 1 mg benzodiazepine /Clonazepam to just actually regularly get sleepy.
Geez, ... I wish I could get off this pill, because it 'sedates me I know and I'm not detecting as well low oxygen levels quick enough and I think I may be adapting to low Oxygen for a lot longer than is healthy. Also, read about all the unsafe crap they put in generic drugs on how quality control in all these out sourced countries/ 3rd world make for not regulations.
It's darn right scary. I do not like this at all.
Is anybody else experiencing similar issues with pharmaceuticals and also my top question about the comparison of those 2 types of machines.
Thank you Pauline

Welcome to the forum. You have received a very good bi-level machine. The VAUTO means it is an auto adjusting machine that can be set to a range of pressures instead of a single pressure.

I've used it two or three times, once 'elsewhere'.

Your review of the advertisement is mistaken; IMHO you have the best "bi-pap" (actually called a bi-level -- see the FAQ) available on the market. You have what you asked for. And it is full fledged.
But here is the thing: it still needs to be configured in a way that best works meets your needs. Perhaps you could start by sharing a bit about the results of your sleep study, what settings and mode you are using, and what feels "wrong." There are a great many tweaks that can be done...but not until folks better understand the concerns.

Klonopin is a serious medication. Assuming it was purchased in the US through legal channels, I would not be seriously concerned about quality control. That said, if you wish to discontinue the medication,it is vital that you work through your Doc. In most instances (depending on dosage and duration), you cannot simply stop this medication but instead need to taper down under the supervision of a Doc.
Just using your machine, that will help address low oxygen level (during sleep). If that is not sufficient, supplemental oxygen nay be added (although that is relatively uncommon).
Is the medication just for sleeping? Anxiety? Seizures?

I would have used it, but for some reason Pugsy didn't include my suggestion about the guy wearing all the scarves who upsets dogs.zonker wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 10:59 pmPugsy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 7:54 pmWelcome to the forum.

Now back to the OP's question before Pugsy gives us a warning for hijacking. I understand she only gives one warning.
As others have suggested, your device is a "full-fledged Bi-pap", but the proper terminology is "Bi-Level".paluisscbo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 6:52 pmHello,

And the AirCurve 10 VAuto is top-shelf.
I have the same device. What I suggest you do is download OSCAR and post some graphs. This way members can look at your data and offer suggestions to improving your experience.
Go through some of the pinned topics for information on how to download OSCAR and post graphs.

The AirCurve 10 VAuto is superior to anything that actually has "BiPAP™" printed on it anywhere.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 3:06 pmAs others have suggested, your device is a "full-fledged Bi-pap", but the proper terminology is "Bi-Level".paluisscbo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 6:52 pmHello,

Plenty of companies make bilevel machines, but the term "bipap" is often used for similar machines.
All it means is that somebody beat the others to the name that is easiest to say.

I keep harping about using the right words, "bilevel" instead of "bipap", "Airsense 10 Autoset" instead of "autosense 10", and on and on, because when you're *searching*, you'll get more, and better answers if you use the right words!chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 9:28 pmPlenty of companies make bilevel machines, but the term "bipap" is often used for similar machines.

Sometimes search engines will guess what you're trying to ask... sometimes not.

Yeah, like "spell-incorrect".
Call it laziness or ignorance--we are stuck with it.
Of course, this is how people get stuck with POS machines.
That way SOME do learn better--the hard way.

The OP has what's arguably the best (non-ASV) Bi-Level machine available, but because it doesn't have the incorrect BiPap stamped on it, they thought they had a sub-standard machine that wasn't treating them properly.
