You have a bad head cold and can't use your CPAP, so realize you MAY DIE, and get your affairs in order?
Your CPAP goes out while on a cruise, so just jump overboard???
Note the use of the word MAY in the info you quote. It's like those endless side effects warnings you hear on TV commercials for commonly used prescription drugs.
Take it all with a grain of salt, do the best you can, and just CHILL.

Hahaha, I'm sorry, I do sympathize with the OP, but I want to thank Mr. or Ms. Freeway for this hilarious post. "Mr. or Ms. Sludge" is an excellent name for a rock band. I was having a horrible day (despite my good sleep last night with Tap Pap) and you turned it around.

If that's all it took to turn your day around, I would respectfully submit that at least one other factor (such as suckin' on a Bong for a bowlful or two) is in play here.

That just shows what a great sense of humor you have... like in not having one. I thought onthefreeway's post was hilarious!

Oh, oh... that's name calling.

Pothead. Is that a person who puts a pot on his head?

After an exhausting search for information on "skipping a night" I stumbled on this thread. I would love some help on using this sites search engine. I found it very frustrating.

I have been invited to spend several days camping with friends and family. Camping in this case means no electricity. I have ordered a battery to use on the trip but, I'm afraid it won't arrive in time. So I was looking for some friendly and knowledgable advice.

I have been using my VPAP machine for some six months and have become accustomed to it. My apneas/hr. were just short of 80 before I was put on therapy. I am trying to decide on whether or not to go because, at the moment, it will mean two nights @ 6000 ft. without my machine. I am concerned my body has made changes and won't react well under these circumstances.

I know we are not all built the same and each of us will react differently but, if anyone has any sincere, insightful advice or experience I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Both me and my father experienced a cpap machine dieing while traveling. Man is that a horrible experience. Is it me or for some reason are these machines more likely to die while traveling? Any thoughts as to why this would be?

They are normally left plugged in and powered 24hrs a day, When you start travelling they are removed from power go cold, then get powered up again its the initial power up that’s problematic for electrical devices

You are responding to a 5 year old thread tho

My wife and I both have A10s and the S9s we used previously. I’ve never worried about dropping dead if I missed a few nights of CPAP but I am so used to it that it’s tough to sleep if I don’t have a machine. Around here there always seem to be previous generation machines available on Craig’s List. I picked up my mate’s S9 backup with just over 100 hours on it for $25 on a local on line auction.

Maybe I'm being naive, and if so I'll accept any criticism to my comment.

I don't quite see this as some sort of life or death emergency. Most of us had sleep apnea for years and years before we ever had a sleep study, were diagnosed, and put on CPAP therapy. Millions more of us have apnea and don't know it, or do know it and have never thought to address it, or chose not to for any number of reasons. A broken leg or a bad case of the flu could also keep one from attending a weekend conference away from home. For that matter, the machine "dying" at home would typically have similar problems were it on a weekend or holiday.....or in the middle of the night at home in bed for that matter.

Surely, a night or two away from home without one's CPAP machine is not going to be that big of a deal. Just pretend you had not yet had your study and were not even aware that you had sleep apnea. A night or two without a machine is not going to cause any serious or long term consequences for 99+% of CPAP users. On the other hand, excessive worry over it just might cause you more harm than just rolling with it and go about your business. If you are convinced that this is putting him in such extreme peril, skip the conference and get yourself into an emergency room at a hospital to have them keep you from perishing from an anxiety attack or heart attack.

Again, maybe I'm being naive, but this is my read on the situation.
Yes, it is an emergency. I cannot sleep without my CPAP. I will go days without sleep without one. Then when I do fall asleep finally, it will be just for a few hours.

Someone also posted here a few months ago speculating that CPAP should have a battery backup since doing without one, even for a short time, could have severe health consequences.

I experienced a total failure/death of my Sullivan CPAP quite a few years ago while I was on vacation in a remote area of Montana 2000 miles from home. We planned to be away from home for 3 weeks. At my wife's insistence I called my hometown DME (ROTEC), and very much to their credit they directed me to a sister DME perhaps 40 miles distant and faxed that DME my prescription etc. The Montana DME confirmed that my old CPAP was hopeless (Maybe 8 or 10 years old) and loaned me a slightly used Respironics machine with the billing transferred back to my home DME. Problem solved!
