Dr. Dakota Chin Pillow - not in Business?

Post by Viraj3474 » Wed Nov 27, 2019 4:21 pm

Had someone on this site suggest the Dr. Dakota chin pillow. It sounds like a good idea and after I read reviews on this product, thought I might try it. I found that it’s not available on two different sites and wonder if anyone knows whether this company is no longer in business. If it isn’t I thought I might try another product that is very similar called “the Eliminator”. Does anyone have experience with that chin pillow? Don’t want to buy something without recommendations. Thanks.

I have had 2 "Eliminators", they both had the velcro come loose within a few weeks. So, I went looking for the Dakota & ran into the same thing you found. I did find one online at Walmart's website.

I saw the same thing . . . WalMart had it. I probably should order one, but not until I read more from other users. How do you like it so far? Good enough to keep? I would like to eliminate the chin strap because I place my headgear OVER the chin strap. It works out better that way for me, though not perfectly. The chin pillow may be my way out of chin straps. Thanks!

I just looked at one on the Walmart site and the total with taxes and shipping is just over $18.00 - that compared to a "standard" soft cervical collar from CVS or Walgreens where one is a available for less than $10.00. I need a new collar and this one looks like a cervical collar with the back cut off and a Velcro strap put in its place. Removing the foam part from behind my neck looked good, the price, however is too high so I passed.

The one I just ordered from Amazon is just over $12.00 including shipping and taxes and I don't have to drive around town to get it.

Looks like the Dr. Dakota’s are not available from either Amazon or Walmart. Can’t find them anywhere. Can you get me a link or exact name of the collar you ordered on Amazon? I’d like to take a look at it. Thanks.

Yes, same thing happened to me! Walmart asked if I wanted to cancel. I let my order ride for now. Maybe I’m repeating myself, but I checked the Dr. Dakota chin strap on the Amazon website. Even though the product was shown, there was a statement that said the Dr. Dakota was not available and didn’t know if it would be available. A statement on the Dakota website says they are working on their site and there is nothing is nothing else. I get the impression they are no longer in business. That’s a real shame as it was made well and many people had very good results from it. As far as I can tell there isn’t any other product that is the same. The Eliminator, which is almost identical, has quite a few reviews complaining about the Velcro trips breaking not long after purchase. This leaves me with the other possibility of a neck brace. I think it has another name, but it alludes me right now. They are available at drug stores and most anywhere on line. In appearance, it’s not as nice at the chin strap. I wish the Dakota site would make an honest statement and tell the public if they are going out of business.

Viraj3474, before you discount all chin straps, take a look at the Knightsbridge Dual Band. It has a completely different design than the standard neoprene ones that wrap around the tip of your chin and push your jaw into your jaw joint. Chin pillows/cervical collars do seem to work for some people, but I think it is very hard to get the size right so it works but doesn't push your head back to an extent to which is uncomfortable. At least that is my experience.

I use the Eliminator, but I removed the foam and packed it with buckwheat hulls instead.
