Tips to help with Daily Cleaning routine

Hi all,

So I rinse my nasal pillows and water chamber every day. But it's such a pain, especially when I'm short for time in the mornings.

Do people have any tips for making life easier with their daily cleaning?

(I've gone off the idea of the ozone based cleaning machines, and it seems like UV cleaning only works on surfaces the UV can hit directly.)

Get up, grab the water tank, dump it out, go to work.

Come home, fill tank, put in machine, wipe off pillows, go to sleep.

My approach:

After waking, I remove the humidifier tank and empty it out. I leave it open to air dry. I use a cpap wipe on my mask. In the evening, I fill the tank using distilled water and insert it into pap. Put on mask and go to sleep.

Monthly (often more like six or eight weeks), I fill a medium sized tub with warm soapy water (I used dawn). I break down the mask and put the mask and tank in the tub. Swish and let soak for about 10 minutes. More swishing and rinse well. For the hose, it is similar except I pour the water into the hose (no hose brush!). Again, rinse well. Everything except straps then goes into my hurricane dryer. Straps I roll up into a towel and press -- then air dry.

In the event of a cold, I follow what I call my toothbrush rule. If the cold was so bad that I throw away (or boil) my toothbrush, I wash everything just as I would on my monthly schedule.

If I really want to kill everything dead, I use Control III instead of dawn. (For me, this is for super nasty things like salmonella -- not your common viral infection). Note: Control III is super nasty, resists rinsing, and must be 100% removed by rinsing.

In 12 years, I have never done "daily cleaning". I wipe my mask with a baby wipe daily, I rarely clean the humidifier tank..just top it off every 2 nights. I never clean the hose since there is only filtered room air going through it. My last tank lasted as long as the machine...5+ years. I change my hose at a year ( even though it's probably not necessary).

When I get up:

• I wipe my nasal pillows with a baby wipe (most of the time)
• I leave my humidifier tank as it is

At bedtime:

• Dump water
• Rinse with tap water
• Fill with tap water

Every few weeks (estimated):

• Wash tank and mask in hot soapy water (dawn)

I never wash my heated hose

My humidifier tank is going on 21 months old, P30i 4 months.

I am allergic to baby wipes. I wipe my nasal cushion down with a cotton round with a bit of rubbing alcohol on it. I use distilled water so I just top it off at night. Once a week I dump the water out let it dry out and refill it. I also take my mask apart and wash it with soap (dr bronners) and water and let it dry. I was also washing my hose every week but switched to the slimline from the heated. I can see clearly that there is nothing in it so I haven't bothered. Now I only wash the hose if I've been sick.

to the op: pretty much the least amount of cleaning is what a majority do here.

i do somewhat like palereider except i don't change out water every day.

but hey! that's just me.

i do somewhat like palereider except i don't change out water every day.

I figured if the OP is already rinsing the water chamber every day....

But, yeah, if they're using distilled water, then just top it up and rinse it weekly or so.

seriously, i'm rather glad i didn't start cpap until i retired. i can't imagine going through what i went through getting used to cpap and STILL have to show up at work.

It's entirely possible that you might have had an easier time adapting to it.

I've NEVER done "daily cleaning"!!! Total waste of time! But, if you have your mind set on frequent cleaning, do it in the evening before you go to bed and then the excess moisture will be added to your humidified air. The idea of "drying" this stuff is absurd!
The only time I dump the water out of my HH tank is when I'm starting a new gallon of distilled water......about 2 1/2 to 3 months (I don't use heated humidity).
