bed wedge?

Post by ephraimh » Thu Nov 14, 2019 10:30 pm

I've been told I should get a bed wedge with about a 45 degree angle. Does anyone have any ideas about what to look for and avoid? Thanks

I have two wedge pillows I purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond that I use when we travel. I saw some at the DME that would have been the same as my two wedge pillows that was less than I paid for the ones I have. At home, we use an adjustable bed what allows us to raise the head and foot of the bed. We have a split queen which allows each side to be adjusted independently. The Relax The Back stores have some very nice wedge pillows, but they are rather expensive compared to what I saw at the DME.

My mother used to have a bed wedge of very firm foam that I used a few times to try to see if it would help my reflux. I'm sure they've come a long way since then. The problem I had with hers was I kept sliding down which put my lower back in a painfully stressed position so I had to quit using it. I think it would have been better if it had been memory foam that hugged my body just bit and maybe used a small wedge under my knees too to maybe counteract the slide. Good luck finding one that works well for you.

I looked into this at one time. From what I read, the most effective is a large wedge that goes under the mattress , and which are quite expensive. The smaller, cheaper, ones that go on top slip down.

Right. Without knowing what problem is trying to be solved, any recommendations are stabs in the dark which could make things worse.

yeah but . . . a wedge is a wedge. It's a triangle. It elevates the upper body. Wondering why would it matter what the diagnosis is.

If the wedge is to alleviate GERD symptoms..it is not the best choice. Using a wedge causes you to bend at the waist which is often uncomfortable and can cause other GERD issues. Better idea is to raise the head of the bed with blocks...In that way the body is still straight, but elevated. Also..with GERD it's best to sleep on your left side.

Relax the Back sells a good quality wedge but it costs a bit more than others.

my apologies for forgetting the reason. Doctor's officer recommended it to lessen the likelihood of swallowing air. 45 is what his tech said which sounds sort of very much a lot more than makes sense to me

Am making an appt with a gastro-enterologist to get tested/ideas/whatever for possible gastric insufflation or whatever that might be causing my aerophagia. Thank
