Possible scam?
Re: Possible scam?
I have wondered why I haven't noticed the awful smell others complain of. My humidity is set to auto. I wonder if the device adjusts to the lack of water before the scorching.

No. It has no way of knowing how much water is in the water chamber.
I think a lot of factors have to come together before the smell gets really awful. I have experienced the bad smell and also not experienced it with a dry water chamber.
I suspect how long it stays dry is a factor, what the heater is doing (low setting vs high setting) is also a factor...and very possibly just how sensitive our nose might be at that time also.

Really you'd have to show an injury, not just "it smells burning."
BTW, the heat really should cut off if there's not enough water.

Oh well ..... I can sleep through smoke detectors, 60% leakage, husband acting out his dreams, cats on my chest ..... why not a bad smell. I wonder if the smell of freshly brewing coffee would wake me up ....... hummmmmPugsy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 1:08 pmNo. It has no way of knowing how much water is in the water chamber.

Re: Possible scam?
I don't get the burning plastic smell thingy... Mine just runs out of water and cuts off the heat. If I sleep for more than 8 hours, I am guaranteed a dry tank, so I run mine dry almost every weekend.
I don't smell anything, just wake up with a drier than normal throat.
Perhaps there exists some machines with a temp sensor thats faulty, but I really cannot imagine any machine designed that way from the start.

Re: Possible scam?
I think I know what I have smelled, and why.
I do not compulsively clean my tank daily, weekly, or even monthly.
(Only when I see "floaters" . . . )
Traces of nature are almost always present in my tank.
Full tank--nothing detectable.
Nearly empty--the funk is concentrated enough so it assails my old nose.
Hey, I garden; there is nothing that has not been all over my flippers.
And I am still alive!

I hate the smell of burning metal in the morning......chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:44 pmI usually smell something "off" slightly before the tank goes dry.
It tends to wake me up--most unpleasantly.

Re: Possible scam?
I've had a few occurrences of that acrid smell waking me up. I've had to turn the humidifier setting down so the water lasts all night. Grrr…. I just hate that smell!

I just wake up and add water.
My "pipes" need moisture--especially since they are rationing the senior flu vaccine.

Re: Possible scam?
I have never run a tank dry (yet), but I do sometimes get a strong whiff of warm (not burned) plastic when I first turn the air on.

To be honest, it's more looks like spam thank scam. Just improve the registration process with few anti-spam technologies, I guess it must affect such posts
