Pulse Ox

Post by alpha752 » Wed Oct 23, 2019 3:45 pm

Does anyone use a pulse oximeter at night? If so which one? I want to keep an eye on it because even though my AHI is under 1, I still feel exhausted and want to be able to see my spo2. I don’t want to spend a whole lot, is there a good option?

I bought a CMS50F from Amazon for about $85 or so a few weeks ago. I don’t use it every night but I do use it to keep an eye on the oxygen levels. It helped find a tweak needed in the settings. I import the data into Oscar (macOS) when I use it and can share the full report with my doc.

I have 2 Pulse Ox. A finger one like the CMS50-D that does not record. I use it to keep tabs on my O2 (COPD). I have a CMS50-F (no Bluetooth) which I have used yo record my overnight O2. When I changes Sleep Dr.'s I showed the new Doc. my nighttime desatrurations. She explained these were probably normal REM stage desatrurations. I did get a new sleep study and they upped my pressure quite a bit. I think I was headed higher on my own with Pugsy's help. After I got my new adjustments to my machine my VS1 & Vs2's completely disappeared. Don't know if that has anything to do wirh O2 or not. I remember the technician doing the study commenting that she had to raise my pressure to 17 to get my snoring to stop. I don't use my recording pulse ox any more but probably will a week or 2 before my next meeting with Dr. In my case with COPD/Emphysema the finger tip pulse ox is very useful. If you are wanting to keep tab overnight then one like the CMS50F may be what you need. Whatever you get it needs to be compatible with SleepyHead / Oscar

I bought CMS50F, but Oscar didn't find it when I tried to import data. I have thought that I contact the manufacturer if there are specs how to read data. Coders can fix Oscar to work with CMF50F software version 6.1.

I guess my concern is my pressure is already super high. I am about 15.5-17 on my apap. My numbers look ok, ahi is under 1 usually, but I’m constantly exhausted. I’m hesitant to go get another sleep study, because I don’t think there’s much more they can do. I had UPPP surgery unsuccessfully and once we max out cpap pressure, I think that’s it. I’m too big for the implant so that’s not an option. I’m just getting frustrated with being exhausted all the time but having decent numbers.

That's not even close to 'super high'. Some people have pressures approaching 30.

Was experiencing similar, AHI was fine (sub 2) but wasn’t feeling amazing. with the doctor adjusted my PS from 2 to 4 and it was like a whole new world for me. After the first night I felt like leaping tall buildings in a single bound. Not something you should expect, but just sharing my experience.

Did a spO2 test last night and was over 90 all night with the exception of one dip. Pre adjustments I was ranging between 60 and 88 on the o2.

Have you asked your doc about doing a home oxygen study? They send you a device, you wear it for a night and send it back. That might help make some decisions on what’s next.

The less expensive pulse ox units average readings every minute...really not enough to diagnose anything. The diagnostic ones average every three seconds or better.

I thought machines only go to 20?

CPAP machines have an upper limit of 20 cm. Bilevel machines have the ability to go to 25 cm with a few special machines capable of going to 30 cm.

seriously, i have enough trouble only going up to 17. (aerophagia) i really can't imagine trying to get used to something that goes up to 30!!

My initial setting was IPAP of 20 to 25 with PS of 5. I currently stay between 19 and 20 most nights. My wife's pressure usually runs from 16 up to 20. She had a bid night last night, and her pressure got up to 23 at one point. She slept through it with out any problems.

Today I got data from CSM50F v. 6.1 to my Linux with myoxi! I think soon Oscar can also get data from that new version of CMS50F. I am soooo glad.

------------------------------------------------------
Start: 2019-10-16 02:27:58 End: 2019-10-16 09:18:37
------------------------------------------------------
Total Records: 24640 (n = 23599, bad data = 1041)
Average SpO2 %: 91.52 (min: 85 max: 98 sd: 19.28)
Average Pulse Rate: 58.86 (min: 52 max: 83 sd: 12.90)
