When I went to pick up my CPAP the respiratory therapist who was explaining everything was showing us how to use the machines said that my prescription was for it to be set at 8 but that that would be too much for me to begin with so I should set it at 4 and it would work its way up to 8 after I was asleep. I did this the first night but the second night I just went ahead and let it start at 8 and it was perfectly fine for me. But then I had read a few things on here about it needing to start lower and work its way up and sometimes it wouldn't go as high as other times? I'm kind of confused about this. My prescription is 8, is it okay to just have it start right out at 8? My apnea is mild (15) but oxygenation is 70% without CPAP, normal with.

If it is perfectly fine. Then it is perfectly fine.2crystalship wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 10:27 pmI just went ahead and let it start at 8 and it was perfectly fine for me.
Use it for a few nights and see.
4 is too low a starting point for many. They feel starved for air.
8 is not a bad starting point for most. You are probably one of those.

Re: Settings
There are two different options at play here. The first is called ramp -- and that is (I hope) what the RT was speaking about. The idea is to ramp up to the starting pressure over some period of time. This is totally a "comfort feature." If you are fine with no ramp, great. (I personally find the ramp annoying most of the time so rarely use it).2crystalship wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 10:27 pmWhen I went to pick up my CPAP the respiratory therapist who was explaining everything was showing us how to use the machines said that my prescription was for it to be set at 8 but that that would be too much for me to begin with so I should set it at 4 and it would work its way up to 8 after I was asleep. The next options are the min and max pressure. What folks are typically talking about there is not overly limiting the max -- the machine will only go as high as needs (up to the max). The ramp is essentially a way to work up to the min.
In order to provide additional help, they will likely want some data from OSCAR (and how they want it formatted is explained up in the stickies).

Whatever you read was *wrong*.2crystalship wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 10:27 pmBut then I had read a few things on here about it needing to start lower and work its way up
If you like it starting at 8, let it start at 8, that just means you'll be getting treated faster.

Yes, leave at 8. Work out any issues you have here. We are here to make sure you succeed.
