Dreamwisp magnetic clasp

Hello,

I have been trying out the Dreamwisp mask and really like it except for one major problem - the magnetic clasp. It is made of hard plastic and almost 1/2" thick. I sleep on my side, directly on the clasp. It's like sleeping on a rock.

I want to like the mask because of the top hose and nasal mask. When I've been able to sleep, my AHI has been better than with my usual Eson2.

I can't see any way to jury rig the mask because the clasp is permanently attached to the plastic band. I've tried cushioning it, but that doesn't help.

Has no one else has this problem?

Is there any other mask with the hose on top other than the N30i and P30i? I prefer the over-the-nose nasal mask.

Have you tried the DreamWear Mask? the hose is on top and it has some options, such as nasal cushion or nasal pillows version.

I do have a Dreamwear that I never wore because the straps kept slipping up the back of my head. I recently discovered that I can wear it by tying the rear straps to my cervical collar - as mentioned by someone (sorry I don't remember where). I will be wearing this at least some times.

I didn't realized that the Dreamwear had other options for the mask part, but unfortunately, I don't see an option for an ordinary over-the-nose option that I would prefer.

As for DreamWear nasal 1. Make sure the frame is the correct size. This is very important. Most end up with medium. You may need a small. 2. Make sure to wear it properly. From the side, the frame should sit between your eye and the ear. And no, there are no over the nose nasal cushions for DreamWear. Just under the nose cushions and pillows. Other over the nose option would be N20 by ResMed, but they also use magnets, which are located a little above the jawline. So, you may wanna take a look at the Eson 2 by F&P, but the tubing is not on top.

Oh, there's also Pico by PR, which is also over the nose

I did check the fit on my Dreamwear. I am wearing a small, which is what I was fitted with, and it seems to sit correctly.

I've worn the Eson 2 for a long time, and am satisfied with the fit, but I was getting better AHI with the Dreamwisp for the several days when I could manage to wear it. And I would prefer not to have the hose hanging from the nasal mask itself.

I sewed some Velcro hook tape (the scratchy side) into the back of the Dreamwear strap facing my head. It catches on my hear and there's much less slippage.

I use a Dreamwear nasal, and I don't know if you use a chin strap or not, but I found that putting on the Ruby adjustable chin strap first then the mask over it, the mask headgear "sticks" to the chin strap. I tried other chin straps but they didn't work. However, if you do not need or want to wear a chin strap, you could try wearing an elastic headband around your head to hold the mask on. I have actually tried that & it worked. In October, I am due new supplies & I want to try the N30i. If I don't like it, I was thinking about trying the Dreamwisp next but now I'm not so sure.

I've never seen this mask so I went and looked.

Wow.

Picture of guy in bed shows clearly that this rock is positioned directly on his jaw muscle. What a stupid decision that is!

No suggestions to fix it... but I sure see what you're talking about.

Thanks for the suggestions about the Dreamwear slippage. When I first got this, I tried various things and gave up - but now am satisfied with tying it to my cervical collar.

The Dreamwisp just worked so well for me (on the nights when I was able to get to sleep with it) that I would really like to use it. I agree that it is a really stupid design (at least for side-sleeping) to have a hard thick clasp on or near the jawbone. I have been surprised not to see any other comments about that issue.

masks fit differently on people. A mask that digs into a body part for one person doesn't necessarily do the same thing with another. That is why I am trying the N30i. Most people like it, but there was one person on a U tube video from cheap Cpap.com I think he's called lucky lefty or something.. anyway, he hated the N30i because of the hard plastic on the cushion, but that is the only person who has mentioned it. If I have the same problem, I will go ahead and try the dreamwisp anyway and see what happens. I can always go back to the dreamwear nasal & wear my darned chin strap to keep it on.

I just discovered that one part of the magnet will easily pop out of a large hole in the plastic strap - I'd assumed it was attached more tightty. The other magnet can be easily taken off the strap, which now will go (tightly) through the hole. I'm excited to try this tonight.

The mask will not be as easy to take on and off, but I can do it without too much trouble by just undoing the velcro on one strap to loosen it.

The photo shows the magnetic clasp on the right, and the modified strap on the left.

Apnea patients who have cardiac pacemaker implants may have problems with magnetic clasps. Attached is a warning from ResMed concerning this unwanted effect. I have a pacemaker and I am personally unwilling to risk using any of the magnetic clasp masks
