Online shops in Europe
Online shops in Europe
Hello Everyone!
I've rented a APAP Machine for two months and I want to buy one. My DME just uses BMC machines and I want a full-data machine like ResMed or Dreamstation.
Does anyone recommend an online shop to buy an APAP machine?
Thanks!

Re: Online shops in Europe
You can probably get a better deal ordering from US.
I recommend -
New, Factory Sealed ResMed S10 AIRSENSE AutoSet and Accessories $749
https://www.secondwindcpap.com/?gclid=C ... ixEALw_wcB
Secondwind is a reputable company that will ship internationally. I've bought "slightly used" machines from them.

Hi meetra,
You don't say which country you're in. It can make a difference. With some countries – the Republic of Ireland, for instance – there is quite sizeable value-added tax (VAT) on sleep apnea equipment, even though that country is part of the European Union, and part of the customs union.
If you want to buy new, I suggest you call either Philips Respironics UK (0800 130 0844) or ResMed UK (0800 907 7071). And I suggest you call them rather than buy on-line so you can get clear with them what's involved in 'shipping' (sending and delivering) to you.
Please note: both these UK sources will need a completed prescription from you. It doesn't have to be from a specialist doctor. Your family doctor can sign it. Both these suppliers have to-be-filled-in prescription forms that you can download.
If you wish to buy 'gently used', I agree with ChicagoGranny. There are lots more users in the US, which means there are lots more second-hand machines available. And Secondwind have lots of experience in dealing with the documentation when sending or shipping from the US to other countries.

Secondwind also sell new machines.

Thank you both for the reply. I'm based in Ireland but just wanted to see if there was any Irish folks here with some experience in buying the equipment.
I have the prescription from my doctor, that's not a problem.

To the OP:
Please state which country you're in. Depending upon where you are, your health plan might cover part or all of your purchase. Apparently, Ireland charges an import duty on such equipment, according to a prior posting (i'm not able to verify or refute this).
Also, you might try to apply for a waiver of import duties (if applicable) if you have letter of medical necessity.
My last suggestion is to contact the company you're renting it from and ask them if they'll sell you the unit that you're renting. There are no shippings costs (you already have it), and you're comfortable with that machine.

You can buy directly from Resmed http://mysleep.resmed.com , http://www.eu-pap.co.uk or Cheaper from suppliers in the US but if you import from the US, Revenue will add VAT on as part of the import I cannot remember how much so you need to factor that cost difference in.

I did not claim to be Irish! In fact, I said I could not confirm not refute the information about import duties. Clearly, I would know this is I were Irish!
I suggested that if they did try to collect import duties, you ask for a waiver. I can't imagine that you would get anything worse than a simple no in any country!

Re: Online shops in Europe
Hello again, meetra,
I had a hunch it might be Eire that you're in.
I did some searching on your behalf.
There's a company called Eiremed in Mallow, County Cork, and they sell what looks like their own brand of auto-adjusting machine, which comes with included humidifier at the price of 495 euros, plus VAT at 113.85 euros, totalling 608.85 euros.
I don't know much about this company – for example, I don't know how long they've been in the business of supplying sleep-apnea machines, and I don't what their reputation is, and so on.
But I do note that, at that price, this Eiremed auto-adjusting machine is cheaper than if you were to import the PR Dreamstation Auto from the UK (price approx £600 – with no VAT charged in the UK)) or to import the ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset from the UK (price approx £680 – again with no VAT charged in the UK).
Both of those UK prices would have to be converted from pounds into euros – and then the Irish VAT applied.
The phone number for Eiremed is: 1 890 567 999. And their website is:
https://eiremed.ie/product/cpap-auto-machine/
Btw, you have my sympathies. I think the way things are currently set-up for sleep-apnea patients in Eire is just monstrous. It's exploitation of people's need, pure and simple.
