breathing monitor
breathing monitor
I have had a ResMed CPAP machine for about 6 years and cannot sleep more than 3 hours with it so I have abandoned it. I think it is a ResMed variable pressure and have been prescribed 11 cm H2O. I am looking for a way to eliminate sleep apnea from obstructing my airway at night and am in need of a way to measure my sleep apnea such as breathing. Is there a simple inexpensive way to monitor my breathing to determine if I stop breathing at night? How about a flexible band that I can wear around my chest that will detect the rise and fall while breathing (and lack thereof during an airway blockage)? Are oxygen sensors accurate enough to detect a short duration blockage? I would like to know if different sleeping positions improve my sleep apnea but have no way to measure it. I am sleeping in the face-down position on my massage table but have no way of determining if it is helping at this time. Thanks in advance!

Re: breathing monitor
A pulse oximeter that records overnight can help all but confirm a sleep disordered breathing problem of some sort exists, but a normal pulse oximetry report cannot rule out sleep disordered breathing. Otherwise you can order a good quality at-home sleep test kit and find out that way.
I suggest sleeping using the machine and then posting your data here for people to see. It may not be the machine itself, but how it's set that is bothering you.

Re: breathing monitor
There are at home sleep studies that will measure several things besides sleep apnea...They run about $400-$500
