Hi everyone,
When I wake up in the morning and take off my mask, I can hear what sounds like tiny bubbles popping when I breathe in. I don't hear them when I breathe out. After a while, say by the time the morning routine is done, I don't hear them for the rest of the day. I don't feel any negative effects.
I've had the issue ever since I started using the CPAP about 4 years ago. I asked my GP about it and he said I seemed fine and there was no cause for concern. I had asked for a referral to my specialist.
I was just curious if anyone else experiences this as well. The closest thing I've been able to find was "Crackling (Rales)" as described here on WebMD: https://www.webmd.com/lung/lung-sounds#1

Hear what sounds like tiny bubbles when breathing after waking up and removing CPAP mask
Re: Hear what sounds like tiny bubbles when breathing after waking up and removing CPAP mask
Do you have your machine located below your head by at least a few inches, so water runs back to it and not to you?

Thanks Julie.
Interesting, I hadn't considered mentioning any of that. So my machine sits on the night table which is about the same height as my head. The tube is generally level with me but sinks between the bed and the night table. I don't use any humidification however as our home usually hovers around 35-45% humidity and I don't have a need for any humidification.

What you are describing sure isn't common at all. I have never heard this complaint from a cpap user.
Since you aren't using any added humidity at this time....maybe try adding a little and see if that helps or hurts things...is about all I know to offer. Maybe the nasal mucosa or lung cilia are a bit dry or something.

Thanks Pugsy. That's exactly the kind of read I was looking for. I tried searching on cpaptalk and elsewhere to see if there was anything like this reported but there didn't seem to be. Your confirmation helps me consider causes unrelated to the CPAP machine.
Thanks everyone.

I had to think a bit for the word I was looking for. It's crepitus.
I doubt that it is related to the cpap usage though. Now what it is related to....have no idea.
