CPAP and Weight Gain?!! :-(

Post by Escapee » Tue Sep 03, 2019 11:29 am

I have been on CPAP for the last 12 days and have been fully compliant. I have noticed a weight gain. I am 5'8" male and have averaged my weight for the last 5 years or so at around 150-152 pounds. Since using the CPAP I started steadily increasing by the day and post 12 days of CPAP usage, I am at 156 pounds (which is a weight I have not seen for the last 5 years atleast), which is about a 4% gain. I looked into this online and one theory is that with CPAP usage your calorie intake can increase which could result in weight gain. I am pretty confident that my calorie intake has not increase bcos I track it closely. The other theory that I have seen some ppl say is that when you have Sleep Apnea, you expend more energy during sleep and now with the CPAP treatment the energy expended during sleep is less and hence the weight gain. Apparently, this weight gain is mostly noticed among folks with normal or lower BMI.

Just wanted to hear from other CPAP users regarding their experience with weight gain. While I am extremely happy with my CPAP results in terms of my overall mood and energy level and do plan on continuing CPAP, I am a little worried about this weight gain and probably would need to take steps to reign it in :o before it gets too much out of hand. Any feedback here would be appreciated.

Well, fidgeting supposedly burns calories. So, I guess struggling with apnea could have been burning calories.

I have a special method for losing weight. Post if you want the details.
