Is a sleep study with titration for me?

Post by SmallCityDave » Sun Sep 01, 2019 9:51 am

I know it's a very open ended question and I know none of you have a crystal ball.

I'm 49 years old 6ft3, 190lbs, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 10 years ago, 5 years ago my cpap started failing so I started chasing better results with changing all the setting and buying new machines unfortunately I forgot what my setting were. I didn't know how to go back to review the previous settings and results till I found this forum last week. In May I bought an IntelliPAP Auto without a SD card so I will never know what crazy settings I tried.

My AHI was anywhere between 3.5-11.5 with my apap and I was trying different settings a few times a week. Now with the help of Pugsy, this forum and using OSCAR I feel that I'm on the right track again.

All of that to ask, should I have a realistic expectation of the sleep study to make a big difference that I can't get from this software and this forum? Perhaps I'm oversimplifying the issue and the solution but after the test they will make a recommendation to my physician about the minimum and maximum pressure on my auto cpap.

One bit of background information I don't have insurance, I did have an in home sleep study (that took 2-3 months to get) that recommended an in lab sleep study with titration that will cost about $900. I have no problem paying for it but I'm skeptical at the benefit, am I wrong?

I don't see the point of spending a night in the lab for titration. Using the charts allows you to see when more min pressure is needed.

Hello, Dave. You’ve asked good questions and come to a good place for answers. It will help the experts if you stack your graphs this way:

Events
Flow rate
Pressure
Leaks
Snores.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Thank you both, I'll change the format so it's easier to read.

Set your min pressure to 8, and max to 20

I'll do it, my wife did mention that she noticed I was sleeping on my back last night.

Hypopnea, Obstructive, Flow Limitations, Snores, all point to more min pressure. But you are not far from victory.

Another good night, maybe best night yet? I forgot to put the sd card in until this morning and for some reason the flow rate doesn't show up?

The flow rate graph is written directly to the SD card during the night so when the SD card isn't in the machine when you use it you won't get a flow rate graph. The other stuff is stored in the machine's internal memory but the flow rate graph files are huge and not stored on the machine.

I thought that might be the issue, thanks!

To this untrained eye it appears that my event flags look a lot better.
