Anyone find something "better" than RESMED F20 FFM

Post by Sluggish » Thu Aug 29, 2019 9:29 am

I know it's subjective...
But just curious to hear from the folks that have already been through their trials and tribulations with the F20 and moved on to something else they liked better.
Mainly I'm curious... what other FFM did you move on to and why? What's better/worse, etc..

I'm afraid this F20 mask might not be good for me after all. I'm kinda bummed about it. Also roughly $200 lighter in the pocketbook (ouch).
Thanks in advance.

being a beginner at this , especially with masks and trying to find something that works for you . I use the f20 now ( donated by another member ) and have had good luck , I was using Nasal pillow type at first . the amara view full face mask is another I had fairly good luck with so as much as I hate to say finding the right mask for you is the worst part of apnea journey . my first dme was no help at all , no masks to try , no suggestions , no fittings and the mask they gave me leaked at elbow ( week before I got another ) . I may try the f30 next , notice the word may , cost can be scary especially even with insurance waiting 6 months ( don't want to wait 6 months ) for mask change . I want to be able to tell dme provide me with these mask parts .

I have used the F20 and had no problem with it. Currently I am using the F&P Simplus which I find very comfortable with no leaking.

First, I sleep on the side.

I have used Quattro Air, F10, Simplus, and F20 – both with silicone and foam cushion. AirTouch F20 is by far my favorite. I’m curious about the DreamWear FFM and F30, and I will try them if I get the chance.

Edit: I should mention that I had some noise issues with the Simplus vents. Also, I don’t think its shape fit my face.

Is it as quiet as the F20? The vents I mean. Quiet and diffused like the f20? What do you like better about the Simplus?

Why is it your favorite? Can you recall what you didn't like about the other highly rated masks you tried?

For me the F20 has long list of pro's and a short list of cons but sadly the cons are big ones.

AirTouch F20 is my favorite because of the foam cushion, and I don’t think I can use a silicon cushion ever again. Foam to me is at least 3–4 times as comfortable.

Because I sleep on the side I’m picky about things not sticking out on the sides. The magnetic clips on AirFit/AirTouch F20 are to me a huge improvement over the plastic hooks that Quattro Air and F10 have. I think I remember the upper tabs on the Simplus causing some discomfort around the temples.

Also, if I recall correctly then the shape of the Simplus cushion didn’t fit my face as well as any of the ResMed masks. I think it had a tendency to leak near the bottom. I also think the elbow felt more restricted in its movement compared to the other masks.

I just like it..no special reason. Venting is similar to F20. No leaks. Have you looked at it? There are hundreds of user comments on the cpap.com page. Has a head support that many don't like...I like it. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... -face-mask

For me the foam or silicone is fine. I’ve tried them both and for me they perform about the same.
Most of my issue is with the headgear and leaks etc..
Considering the magnet things are removable, I wonder if anyone has successfully used headgear from another mask.

I've tried other masks and keep coming back to the F20. Every mask has it's good points and bad points. The idea is to find one that the good out weighs the bad. Every body is different. If we were all the same, there would only need to be one mask on the market.

Yes I’ve read extensive reviews on every mask. I find the reviews only somewhat helpful because most users do not come back to update the review when they find a mask that’s better.
For me... the F20 interferes with my eyes because of how far up it sits on my face. It leaks unless pulled so tight that it feels like an octopus is attached to my face. The men’s size headgear is too large and the women’s too small. It leaves deep marks in the back of my neck and I’m using DOUBLE pad-a-cheek covers.
I was hoping to find someone who had a similar experience to mine and then find out what mask they ended up with and why. At this point I’ve given up on nasal masks and considering giving up on CPAP entirely. I’m about 2 years into this and feel about the same as the day I started. Just $1000+ lighter in the pocket. While I do greatly appreciate the 30 day window provided by CPAP.com, it’s just not long enough for a proper trial and I end up with a mask I can’t use or return or re-sell.

Yes, I'm having to pull it so tight to prevent leaks that it's not that comfortable (but still more comfortable for me than the silicon). I'm wondering if that's going to cut down on the life of the cushion too.

It probably doesn't help the fit that I'm using a gel cushion for the bridge of the nose. I've seen this recommended in a few posts & I'll buy it now that payday has arrived in hopes that I can loosen the mask a little:

Yeah I see lots of people reporting issues with the bridge of their nose. So far I have not had much issue with that. I also have some foam tape I occasionally use on the bridge of my nose to prevent irritation.
I’ve seen that strap recommended but I didn’t go for it because I made my own version first and it pulled the mask in too much of an upward direction. What I need is something that pulls the mask down so I went for this:
https://www.padacheek.com/product-page/mask-stabilizer

It works as advertised but creates an odd feeling of tug-of-war on my face with the headgear pulling up and the chin support pulling down etc. And I’m finding that even with the strap pulling the mask down, it still gets too close to my eyes that it bothers me when I try to sleep.

We certainly are all different!

I've only been using CPAP (Airsense 10) for a week. The mask I chose was the Resmed F30. First night was OK but progressively I got pain in the nose which got worse each night until 4.45am yesterday I ripped it off as the pain was so intense. It wasn't skin irritation but pain similar to having been punched in the nose and left with the painful aftermath. It took about an hour each morning for the pain to lessen.

Yesterday I took the F30 back to my supplier and exchanged it for an F20 under the 14 day exchange agreement and had a painless full night's sleep for the first time in a week.
