AirSense™ 10 AutoSet Opinion

Post by charlesrshell » Wed Aug 21, 2019 5:07 am

Been a long time since I have posted. I have had my ResMed S9 AutoSet for over five years now and thinking of getting a new machine. Would like some opinions on the ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet. Thanks for any help. How are you Pugsy?

It has been about five years since AirSense 10 was released. If the one you’re currently using works, then I would personally wait for the next one.

The Resmed Autoset 10 for Her is the one to go for even if your a for him as it has an extra mode that you may not use but could be useful to have

There is no current news about a next machine...

Do you use Sleepy Head or OSCAR?

If you do, then don't wait. There is no guarantee that either will work for whatever machine is released next. ResMed's latest machine the Mini doesn't.

Get the AS 10 AutoSet or the for Her.

I am not going to use any software. I did all that software stuff when I got my S9 AutoSet. I don't have that severe Apnea to do all that monitoring. So I quit doing it. What is the extra mode the AS 10 AutoSet has for the her model?

The extra mode is an algorithm marketed for women. It is a less aggressive response and when it senses a a set amount of apneas in a short time period will establish a new minimum pressure.

Hi again. I am still plugging along here.

I have had a chance to try that new "for Her" algorithm as well as the regular algorithm...and I like it.
Is it critical??? Not for me but then it might be for someone else and what it does something that might be of benefit to anyone and not just women. If you have 2 OAs within a minute the machine will create a new minimum 2 cm above the old minimum in an effort to prevent the OAs from happening again. I have seen it work often. It only remembers it during that session though...once the machine is turned off it goes back to regular minimum.

The nice thing about the For Her model Autoset...it still has that other regular auto mode available as a choice if for some reason the for Her algorithm doesn't work out so great. It does have some limitations where it doesn't work so great for a few people. It just doesn't respond fast enough to do a good job.

So the regular AirSense AutoSet...you get 2 modes of operation....cpap and regular auto/apap. 2 machines in one
With the Airsense For Her AutoSet...you get 3 modes of operation...cpap, regular apap/auto, and the for Her apap/auto. 3 machines in one.

So you lose nothing but gain an extra mode or weapon in your arsenal for fighting apnea. Always better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it.

Is it a critical need for you at this stage of things? Probably not but if you can get the for Her model and it doesn't cost you more...why not get that extra mode.

Thanks Pugsy. Good hearing from you again. Is ResMed still the go to machine?
I have a friend in California who is going to do a sleep study. His heart doc thinks he has a pretty severe case sleep apnea. If he needs a Bilevel type machine, is there a go to ResMed model to try to get if he has a choice with the sleep doc? Thanks again.

Yes...IMHO ResMed is still the go to brand.

The AirCurve 10 model line is the bilevel models. There is no for Her model in the bilevels.
For plain OSA...the AirCurve 10 VAuto would be my choice. Essentially the AutoSet with the ability to go to pressures over 20 cm (which the autoset can't) and a bit more customization available in terms of some comfort settings.
I always believe that auto adjusting is a better choice than a fixed pressure only machine....we simply don't always sleep the same each night and our pressure needs can vary.

Pugsy, I came up with this link in the ResMed site. Scroll down to the Bilevel section. ResMed has five AirCure models. Which model do you suggest?

Didn’t think about that. Is it likely to happen (i.e. have they tried to prevent it in the past)?

Unless you have central or complex sleep apnea, the best model to get is the Air Curve 10 VAUTO. This is an auto adjusting machine that will vary the pressure as needed.
