DME is sending a new machine....say what?

Post by Hugewreck » Thu Aug 01, 2019 12:26 pm

I had to find a new DME (switched from Baycare to BCBS-CA based insurance though I live in Florida) when my trusted S9 gave up the ghost a month ago. I call insurance they send me to Apria - no help kept losing info about me & insurance, next business was an Oxygen supply place that sells ...oxygen tanks and hospital beds. :| , third place contacted me and said "hey shipping dept is sending out your machine you should have it in 3 days (this was last friday). I ask what machine? she doesn't have a clue...ay right...I do need hoses and such since its a new machine you understand that? She says shipping will contact you. wait you just said it shipped out which is it? She puts me on hold.....23 minutes later...yes the machine has been shipped if you would like to return it just call me back at,,813,,,,,, and no questions asked. What the HECK!

So anyone want to wager on what mystery machine I will receive sometime in the future.

I'd be worried more about charges. Your Doctor is in the loop or pit, ask him WTH is going on. Jim

So the new machine - PR Dreamstation with humidifier.

Finally received a box dropped shipped from the local DME, it showed up Wednesday. Insurance company (Athem BCBS of CA) checked in every day with me "have you received anything from the DME?" No " Okay, thanks I will call tomorrow" this goes on for 16 days. So thursday they call at 11:35am and I can finally say "yes machine came and its only the machine, no tubing or pieces or even a mask kit tossed in" insurance rep "oooookaayayy well lets rectify that immediately" i told him what I would like - heated tube and want to try the PR Dreamwear nasal cushion kit (i was thinking it would be similar to Swift FX i was using). I had a package at my door friday! wow. So this now 6 week long saga of finding a local DME (tampa, fl) has ended with me using Aeroflow out of NC.

I wanted a local so I could go in and look at face gear and ask questions. I did find a local supplier that is awesome but they do not deal with insurance companies. Now I know what machine I have I will go in and support them a little bit by buying nasal cushions. Nice to have a local store.

I would expect that you would ONLY receive a replacement machine and not all that other stuff. After all, it was only the machine that quit.......and you should have already had all of that other stuff to attach to your replacement machine.
Don't be surprised if they bill you (or your insurance) for the other stuff, too.
Which specific model did they send you? Auto or just plain, no frills basic machine? In other words, did they send you the exact same model you had?

They sent me a PR Dreamstation Auto (500) I had no choice in the matter per the DME Rep, I just found out that I can ask for a machine on my Rx filled out by my doc. My Resmed S9 Autoset blower was dying and my insurance company said I was due for a new machine with all the frills. The Resmed heated hose does not work on the PR so I needed a hose to use the machine. Also my settings were not set - 7-12, luckily i know how to get into the clinical side and fix it. I still have not heard about cost/deductible after repeated asking them and complaining to the insurance reps. Hopefully i will get EOB soon.

OK.....now I've got it. I had previously focused on the machine in your profile and somehow overlooked that you had mentioned the S9 in your posting. My bad.
