Should I be concerned

Post by jcarven » Wed Dec 06, 2006 10:36 am

I have been on the CPAP machine now for a little over three weeks. No major changes although I now only get up once a night to hit the head, I do feel a little more energetic in the morning, and I have not been falling asleep at my desk at work. I was nodding off several times a day.

However this week it started again. I have been feeling very tired and have been falling asleep sitting up. Is this normal? I thought at first that I might be getting leakage or something, but the mask seems to fit OK and it is not waking me up in the middle of the night. I have not noticed any odd air blowing against my face and the pillow seem snug against my nostrils.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

John

My first guess would be that you're leaking treatment air out your mouth and it's not keeping your airway open. Are you waking up with a dry mouth?
Try taping your mouth shut or using Polident adhesive strips to keep it shut and see if things improve.
You also didn't mention what your pressure was.

Best wishes,

If you can-get the software to monitor your therapy-best way to tell what is happening with therapy while you are asleep.

Kay,

His profile shows that he has the "Plus" model......which doesn't collect data.
Unless he can upgrade his machine, he has to go by "feel".

Having a cpap that can give you details for each nights events is very important to making your therapy the best for you. Upgrading to a Pro or even better to an auto and the encore pro software would give you the tools you need.

Have you discussed with your doctor? If he write an upgrade the insurance folks have to comply. Your insurance may not pay for the software but you could buy the software from cpap.com and buy the reader online from an overseas source for about $25. I don't have the url, but some others reading this may be able to help. I believe the supplier is in Hong Kong.
Good Luck!
