Hi all, I carry out good routine cleanliness of all bits of my machine and wash tubing and pillows often.
No matter what I do there's this kinda weird Silicone smell thats really bothering me of late? Any similar experience and how to get rid of this?
Also another question, can any tubing be cleansed in the dishwasher. I do my Humidifier in there twice a month.
Weird Smell of tubing
Re: Weird Smell of tubing
What are you using to clean which equipment?
For what it's worth, a whole lot of us never, never wash the hoses through which filtered air comes into the machine (air filtered from the room you breathe normally in during daytime) and then into your airway (mask in between) but never the other direction, so there's nothing to soil the hose at all.
I ask what you clean with because there's a scam going on by a company charging $300 for a So Clean machine that supposedly cleans your machine and uses ozone. They are being sued in a huge class action suit for their useless machine and it's important to understand that ozone can actually harm your respiratory system... so stop using it if you got suckered in by the TV ads - Bil Shatner or not!
Other 'smell' causes could be your soap (Dawn does a great job weekly, baby wipes daily, if that, on the mask), or even a previous smoker who owned the machine.
Oh and by the way, the more you scour the mask, the faster the silicone wears out... and you spend more at the DME! Some of us have masks years old!

Re: Weird Smell of tubing
I find the air I get at the beginning of each night smells like whatever I cooked for dinner. Not always so pleasant 2nd time around. I like to use a couple drops of essential oil in a pleasant scent on a cotton pad placed behind the air intake/filter. A few times I've placed a fragrant fruit or vegetable back there. Hey, whatever works.

Re: Weird Smell of tubing
Adding a scent works wonders.
I need to find a smallish osage orange.
Not only is the smell really nice, but it is reputed to repel spiders.
