Preston (UK) father-of-three, 28, dies suddenly from sleep apnea
I'm not quite sure how such a determination is made in an autopsy. The article implies that he was known to have had sleep apnea, but no mention of any attempt to directly address it, or whether (and under what circumstances) it was formally diagnosed.

Re: Preston (UK) father-of-three, 28, dies suddenly from sleep apnea
Just curious how you came on this story - are you trolling the world looking for such things?
Re: Preston (UK) father-of-three, 28, dies suddenly from sleep apnea
Not that I want to see more people passing away from untreated sleep apnea... however if you saw sleep apnea in the news and written on death certificates more often I bet we would have less idiot celebrities saying that sleep apnea is just snoring and that it's no big deal. That and more people would give the condition more respect and take it more seriously.
I happen to think under the right circumstances it isn't at all farfetched to say that untreated sleep apnea could kill, all by it self.
If you have someone smothered with a pillow you dont say they died from lack of oxygen, end of story, (even though that's the whole point) you blame the pillow and the one holding it over the dead guy's face.
If someone dies of a stroke or heart attack in their sleep for no other reason than sleep apnea, why are we forgetting about the "pillow" and going with a more literal cause of death? I know the reason may be that it's hard to "prove" apnea did it... but it would be nice to see a bit more effort to investigate these situations better.
If sleep apnea was shown to be the leading cause of some of the more common conditions or acute onsets of conditions that take a lot of us away from this world I feel we would be getting more support when it comes to treating and diagnosing this.
My 2 cents anyway,
Restwell,

Are you suggesting that D.H. is actually Mr. Peabody from "Fractured Fairy Tales".
Are you? And if so, what has he done with Sherman?

Actually, that would be "Peabody's Improbable History." The "Fractured Fairy Tales" was another segment on the same show.

Re: Preston (UK) father-of-three, 28, dies suddenly from sleep apnea
For years, I knew I had sleep apnea. But I didn't understand what that really meant. I understood it to be snoring and waking up more frequently. I have always been a severe night owl, so I already tended to get less sleep, and I had learned to deal with it. I did not see it as a problem, except when traveling. My sister would yell at me for snoring and insist I roll over because I was quieter on the other side. Actually, I was awake on the side because it was uncomfortable. But she got to sleep if I was awake.
My primary doctor was treating me for high blood pressure. I was on 3 medications, and it was still high. She would warn me that I wast a higher risk of stroke. She never once mentioned sleep apnea, or even asked about my sleep, despite also treating my mom, who had been using cpap on and off for several years.
One summer, I had a huge vertigo event. I went to two different ERs. I was out of town for the first round, then home when it happened again. It had nothing to do with sleep apnea, and that never came up. But both doctors checked me out for stroke. I was 38, and I look younger than I am. Yet they both considered stroke during their evaluation. That really scared me. I knew the blood pressure was bad, but I still didn't know what to do since the 3 medications were lowering it, but it was still high.
Then I saw a story on the news about sleep apnea. They talked about sleep apnea and how that causes high blood pressure which leads to heart attack and stroke. I finally understood what was going on. I scheduled an appointment. Before the appointment, I shared a hotel room with a friend. I warned her that I snore, but she was fine. The next day, she asked when my appointment was. I asked her if my snoring was that loud. She said no, but it was really scary. Nobody had ever told me about the gasping and times I stopped breathing. I had experienced choking fits, but I thought that was just gerd. I had never put it all together.
So, I asked the doctor for a sleep study, and got diagnosed at ahi of 79 after 2 1/2 hours. I didn't even reach REM or deep sleep, so my real untreated ahi is probably higher. it was a split night study, and I slept 5 hours straight my first night with a cpap.
I owe my treatment to a story on the news.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: Preston (UK) father-of-three, 28, dies suddenly from sleep apnea
But could it have been Fake News?
