Staining of Pillowcases????
Re: Staining of Pillowcases????
Same exact issue here as well. Have used multiple masks and switched up pillow cases (all are cotton though), and I consistently get the purplish stains every time I use my Airfit P10.
I'm convinced its the P10 on its own, or reacting with the cotton pillow case. I'm male, not using hair color, lotions, etc. I do sometimes get warm at night so maybe it's the light sweat/moisture reacting?

I am thinking the dye in the headgear and maybe some sweat causing it to leech onto the pillow case.lastmango wrote:I'm convinced its the P10 on its own, or reacting with the cotton pillow case. Have you tried washing the headgear really good first?

Re: Staining of Pillowcases????
Since he began using new CPAP mask straps last month, my husband's pillows are showing showing heavy staining, from light blue to purple and black. This is a new phenomenon and an unpleasant surprise as he's been using the machine with similar straps for 8 years without a problem. Ironically, he replaced the straps because, after washing them, by hand, his old straps began to separate from their lining. To remove the stains, I soak the cotton pillowcase in straight detergent overnight and set the machine to "super wash." Normal washing doesn't remove the stains. The detergent I used to soak the pillowcase, is Tide regular. My husband doesn't use hair products or anything else that would explain the stains, nothing in his routine changed except the new straps. Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning the straps? Thanks!

You are probably correct about the dye. The headgear may or may not be from Resmed. If not, the generic headgear was not dyed properly.Pugsy wrote:I am thinking the dye in the headgear and maybe some sweat causing it to leech onto the pillow case.lastmango wrote:I'm convinced its the P10 on its own, or reacting with the cotton pillow case. Stains are no match for creative tie-dye.

Re: Staining of Pillowcases????
I use a ResMed 10 with the ResMed Airfit F20 headgear and mask. I've used this system for years with no staining. Now I'm getting the same problem. I thought it might be a bad headgear and side face straps so I cleaned the pillowcase and change out to a new set of the Airfit F20. The new set caused the same exact problem. I get light gray to dark gray to black stains with it looks like an oil tan like stain too. I can get the stains out by using liquid clear Softsoap hand soap. You have to scrub the stains till they are removed then wash them after. So far that gets the stains out at lest for me. I don't use any hair color treatments. I've not changed anything in my hygiene and it's the same as it's been for the last five or more years. My hair is turning gray though I don't think that is the problem other than I'm getting older LOL. This has happened with two new headgear and new mask setup for the ResMed Airfit F20. This is driving me crazy having to hand wash my pillow case each day to get the stains out. It also transfers to the pillow which I can wash and get the stains out too. Washing my pillow is a really long process and takes all day to get it to dry so I can use it again. The only thing I can think of is that ResMed must have changed something in the making of the cloth portions of the headgear and side face straps. Either they changed the dye or cloth and it's leaching out during the night. I have noticed on the side straps that I see the same stains are there too. I've not noticed it on the headgear. So I'm going to try just the headgear and take off the side face straps and see if that stains the pillow cases to find which one is the problem. This should not be happening.
I figured out why it's happening. It seems that the ResMed Airsense 10 machine blower motor is leaking a very small amount of oil that is coming out of your mask and getting on your pillow and headband material. This means you are breathing the oil into your lungs! I've quit using my machine at this point. How I came to this decision. Had my wife use one of my masks and headband on her new ResMed Airsense 11 machine no black, bluish or any oil on her pillow case for the night or for several nights. I cleaned the mask and used it on my own ResMed Airsense 10 machine and bam! the black to bluish with oil stains are back on my pillow and headband. So the only logical explanation is that my ResMed Airsense 10 machine blower motor is creating the oil stains on my pillow case, pillow under the pillow case in the gray, black and bluish colors. This means you are also breathing the oil into your lungs. I'm pretty sure that cannot be a good thing for anyone to breath into their lungs. I stopped using my machine period. Use at your own risk since I can't say for 100% this is what is happening but it's the only logical explanation.

Re: Staining of Pillowcases????
This just started happening to me too. I'm finding long blueish-gray tubing marks on my pillows and sheets.
My concern is not so much about the stains on the sheets and pillowcases as it's about what I may be breathing into my lungs.
I want to know what is causing this. I'm using a Philips Dream Station 2 Auto CPAP Advanced.

Since the color is coming from the OUTSIDE of the hose, snorelady wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 12:25 pmThis just started happening to me too. I'm finding long blueish-gray tubing marks on my pillows and sheets.
