Airsense 10 vs Dream Station Leak Rates

Post by DJOS » Fri Jul 12, 2019 1:06 pm

I've used Resmed APAP machines for many years with no leak rate problems but this last year has been horrible for leak rates. My leak rate was consistently at 40-42 L/min for about 6 months but now it is at 53 L/min (for the last 3 months now). I've tried at least 5 different masks and none of them improved my leak rate. I'm considering changing to a different APAP machine now to see if i can improve my leak rate and I'm wondering if any of you have changed from Resmed Airsense 10 for Her to another APAP and found that your leak rate improved. I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance.

That leak rate is ludicrously high.

Changing *machines* won't make any difference in leak amount, since that is all in the hose and mask.

I agree..machine will not make a difference. Are you mouth breathing? What masks have you tried?

nope. have changed from resperonics to resmed with no change in leak rates. (i know that's not what you asked.)

have you tried watching any mask fitting videos on youtube? i don't have direct experience with this, i'm just parroting what i've heard.

good luck!

Hi,

I also have a new autosense auto set by resumed. Using a P-10 pillow mask. Same problem! High leak rates but good sleep times, low events, AHI. But with high leak rates higher then 50. I can do a mask fit check ok with a green smiley face at start and as long as I keep it on fit check. In morning no smiley face though. I hear no big leaks while sleeping 4 then 3 more hours after break. I think it may be low seal leaks in the humidifier throughout the night. I do feel rested in the am.

Will contact provider soon

Thanks so much for the feedback. I used the Swift FX for Her for many years with no leak problems. In the past year I've tried Phillips DreamWear, AirfitP10 and a full face mask. I cannot wear a full face mask - it makes my AHI go sky high and didn't change my leak rate. The other masks made no difference in my leak rate. I've used mouth tape successfully until this year and have also recently tried a chin strap and other types of tape for mouth breathers. Nothing has worked, including the tape I've used for years. I change my hose monthly and have checked for leaks. There's no problem with my hoses. If changing machines won't work, the only other thing I can think to do is try some more masks. I have watched the videos for the masks I've tried and don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I do have narrow nostrils and I'm wondering if there's a mask that might be a better fit for a narrow nose profile. I'd love to solve this leak rate problem but I'm out of ideas at this point. I've used an APAP faithfully since 2006 so I will keep using it and keep working on trying to find a solution to my leak rate. I'd appreciate any of your ideas! Thank you!

Thanks for the question about how long I've used my Resmed. I bought a new Resmed machine a year ago. It was defective and I received a replacement so my current machine is quite new.

Let's see some Oscar screenshots, so we can see what the leak looks like.

You may also want to double check your hose to verify no leaks.
Sometimes you can get a tear near the end that will seal unless you flex the hose. It can be intermittent. You can always try another hose and see if that helps.
