Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
I had a sleep trial done with an Dreamstation APAP. The machine was NOT responsive enough so my sleep clinician had set it on CPAP mode on 11 for the remainder of the trial
However now I have a S10 Autoset and have dialled in a APAP setting of 6-20 for the first night. Now I am getting pressure spikes for extremely brief periods before dropping below.
attached are a few reports from the Dreamstation trial and a report from sleepyhead from the S10 I have now

What should I set my minimum pressure to be?

First, it's not a S10, they dropped the "s" with the air10 line for some unknown reason...DreamInSleepNow wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 10:09 amI had a sleep trial done with an Dreamstation APAP. Second, let's try a minimum pressure of 8, that'll help a lot.
Look at the pressure curve, see where it jumps up after the pressure drops? you want the min to be a bit above those spots where it jumps up... so as to prevent those events from happening in the first place.

I bumped it up to 9 just after I made the post.
There was practically no OA however I did wake up in the middle of the night when the pressure jumped to 15
Here is the sleep report.

It looks better, except for that bad cluster. Let's let it ride for a bit.DreamInSleepNow wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 7:47 pmI bumped it up to 9 just after I made the post.

Re: Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
Sounds good to me. I was thinking if more of these spikes occur every few days or once a week or so I should cap the max pressure and ride through the episodes rather than disturb sleep??
I got a larger mask in the mail so hopefully that tightens up leak and comfort even further. Maybe I can tolerate the higher pressures then!

Re: Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
If you needed a pressure of 11 during your study, WHY would you think 6 would be OK at home??DreamInSleepNow wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 10:09 amI had a sleep trial done with an Dreamstation APAP. I'd suggest at LEAST 10 for the minimum to start, and you will probably end up a bit higher than that.

Most likely, it's the *episodes* that are disturbing your sleep, after all, that's pretty much the whole point of getting a cpap, because not breathing results in disturbed sleep.DreamInSleepNow wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 11:34 pmSounds good to me. Only, with the added stimulus of the cpap, when the events disturbed your sleep, you woke up enough to notice the mask and higher pressure.

Re: Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
Fom my past readings there has been reports of the Autoset being more "aggressive" or being able to treat sleep apneas at a "lower pressure". Me wanting to see it first hand was the reason why I had it wide from 6-20.
I'll see how 9 for now as I don't want to move it around too much without properly gathering data. At a minimum of 6 it seemed clear that it was too low.

I wouldn't think it would've been the one waking me up as I've always slept deeply! But I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Re: Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
That is a fallacy that people tell themselves. Before cpap, you were passed out from exhaustion, spending the night with the equivalent of someone poking you with a sharp stick every couple minutes (what was your pre-treatment AHI?)DreamInSleepNow wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 9:41 amI wouldn't think it would've been the one waking me up as I've always slept deeply! The fact that you don't *REMEMBER* waking up dozens, if not hundreds of times a night doesn't mean it wasn't happening.

Re: Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
Pretreatment AHI was 15 on sides - 90 on my back!
That would explain why for me it seems the pressure would spike instead of gradual changes for others?
Last night was good! I'm going to give it some time then bumping it up to 9.6-10 cmh20

Re: Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
I would leave things as they are for now and try to work on mask fit. Make sure the cushion is the right size, and usually for a FFM it is beneficial to be clean shaven to get a good seal.

Re: Minimum Pressure vs pressure spike.
The mask I have now is fitting fairly well but I got a larger one in the mail. I can’t grow much hopefully a handful of strands don’t effect it too much!
