Heating system failure on Resmed Autoset 10 for Her

Post by sleepychar » Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:51 am

Last night my Resmed Autoset 10 for Her CPAP machine started displaying a message: Heating system failure. System will run without heat.
Of course this happened on a Friday night so I can't reach my DME to inquire about it. My machine is just under 3 years old so I think it is past the 2 year warranty period. I'm wondering if anybody else has had this happen and how expensive it might turn out to be to get it fixed. Not an emergency. I guess I will find out Monday if no one responds... Just thought I'd ask. Thank you.

Ensure it's not a software problem. Reset the machine by unplugging, leaving for a minute or so, then plug back in.

If that doesn't fix, then you'll be running with out heated humidity for the night. You can still use passover humidity.

I have no experience with having ResMed's fixed, but based on other posts I've seen and modern day throw-away, I wouldn't be surprised if it was was to expensive to repair.

maybe try re-seating your hose. had a similar thing happen to me and that cleared it up.

good luck!

Thank you, Dog Slobber and Zonker. Unplugging and then plugging the unit back in seemed to do the trick and the message is no longer displaying. I also unplugged and re-seated the hose. Hopefully these steps have resolved the problem and it won't recur, at least not soon. I really appreciate both of you taking the time to offer advice. Not only would it be a hassle and expense in general to have to get the unit fixed, but my DME is not exactly fun to have to deal with. I'll post again if the fix does not hold just to let you know. At that point I guess I would have to deal with repair or replace.

I bought a backup machine, just so I would not be in a bind should my unit fail.

After I adjusted to my CPAP therapy, and accepted I was going to be plugged in, it became important to me to have a backup of everything.

Spare mask, spare hose, spare humidifier and spare machine.

When you're not in a huge hurry, you can get the best deals. So every day I looked on Facebook Marketplace, LetGo and Kijiji (Popular Canadian Buy & Sell site). I've gotten some great deals on low hour machines.

Many sites have policies against selling prescription items, but they sneak through.

Many aren't comfortable with used machines.

We have two back up machines, one for me and one for my wife, even though we both use the same machine. I bought the first one shortly after I started treatment, and paid quite a bit for it, but the machine was brand new with zero hours on it. My wife used it for three months when when she first started treatment until they finally decided she did not need an ASV type machine. The second one, I found on the local facebook market place at a very reasonable price. It only had 106 hours on it.

I've saved my last cpap machine, Resmed 9. & I too believe in keeping spares.

My new machine has all the bells & whistles, but seems kinda cheaply made compared to my previous machine..
