The Usual Cluster
My VAuto - 4 years and 2 months old - is failing noisily; I don't know how long it will last.
My DME confirms this but no longer sells RESMED equipment which I would like to continue using.
The insuror, Blue Cross Blue Shield, is happy to replace the machine.
All BCBS asks for is a prescription noting the failure and calling out the VAuto as being required.
Of course my worthless MD can't see me for 2 months or more (no consideration for the equipment failure) and is likely to require another sleep study with its further delays.
Even a single night without my machine could bring out the Zomby Woof - and no one wants that!
Any thoughts from the brain trust for alternate solutions that would be faster? Used equipment begins to look very appealing.

Your current DME could supply you with what you want if they just would....they can special order machines.
All DMEs can special order anything if they would just do it.
You could of course try to find a DME who works with your insurance and will supply you the machine you want and change DMEs...bit of a hassle but it can be done and you still most likely would need a new RX from the doctor since it is the insurance company wanting the RX.
Otherwise....check out secondwind.cpap.com (if you want to just buy your own machine) and call up Mark (owner) and explain the situation. Sometimes they will waive the RX requirement in situations where someone is already using the machine of their choice.
They have gently used and sometimes even new open box zero hour machines available.
Watch the forum....sometimes forum members dabble in gently used machines. LSAT just sold a ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto with less than 500 hours on it for $525. You might check with him and see if he has another one in the works he could sell you.

Check your local Craig's list. I found my most recent purchase on Facebook Marketplace. I got an Air Curve 10 VAUTO with 106 hours on it for $225. It is highly recommended people have a spare machine in case the primary machine fails and you are unable to get a new one immediately. My wife and I both use the same model machine, but we have two spare machines on hand just in case both machines fail at the same time.

I had planned to only have one spare machine, but when I found the last one for $225, I couldn't pass it up.

Situation Resolved!
Many thanks to forum member LSAT who solved my equipment problem elegantly.
Larry quickly sourced a twin of my RESMED, and,
shipped it to me before the old device failed completely.
The machine is perfect, the effort was impressive, and, I am grateful for his assistance.
Needless to day, I highly recommend LSAT for CPAPTalkers
in need of low-hour, high-quality used or refurbished machines.
