More Papillow questions.

Post by SelfSeeker » Sat Dec 02, 2006 7:14 pm

I want to try a Papillow.

I have read many good things about them. I have tried some memory foam pillows, which work with the hybrid, but the sound of the NA II sounds worse with the foam pillows.

So I have some final questions, if you all do not mind answering the ones you can.

Thank you very much.

How do you decide on which pillow size to get?

How soft is the pillow?

Will my head sink in it?

My present pillow is so soft, that my head sinks and the exhaust of the NA II hits the pillow so I pat it down all night at the corner. Will the Papillow help with this?

Do you find that the papillow muffles the sound of your interface, so you do not hear the noise as much, or does it amplify the noise?

Did you make your own pillow cases?
I can do this, I will do this.

Selfseeker:

I do not use the "Papillow". I just took a look at the website to get "informed"...it sure didn't tell me much!

I'd want to know what's inside it...couldn't find that info.

If I were you...I would take a pillow that you have, and tie something around it, about a 1/3-2/3 position across the widest part of the pillow - that will make it look more like what they are advertising, which is a "Mae West" type of thing...seems they've only changed the shape of a regular pillow, but it could also be more firm, they didn't say.

I sleep on my side, and have a 'memory foam' pillow on the bottom, and a 100% down pillow on top of that (comfort). So, the mf pillow provides support, and the down gives some room for the mask, if needed.

I would try reshaping some of your pillows first.

Then, ask them what materials are used, etc.

If you happen to use a feather or down pillow,
do first suggestion of tying it into desired shape,
or get someone to alter one of your old pillowcases so that one end has the curve in it, then shove your pillow into that until it takes the form of the curve. Just tie the other end for now. Sleep on it. .

See how that works out for you...maybe the shape really IS immaterial.

I use a Papillow and I find that it is very supportive, rather than being soft and squishy. I'm a side sleeper and my hose simply hangs of the edge of the Papillow on whicever side I'm sleeping.

I didn't see your post here until just now (a few hours later), offerocker.

I found more specific info about the "fill" of the PAPillow. It's called Fossfill ultra.

The papillow comes in a small travel size and a full size. I got the full size. I just use a regular pillow case with no problems. The pillow is soft but firm. I credit 5 things with keeping me 100% compliant;
Pad-A-Cheeks
Aussie Hose
Papillow
Hybrid mask
This forum

Without any one of these things I don't think I would have been able to do this!

Brenda,

Of couse this forum, which is nothing without its wonderful members.

Nice list, did you notice that only the Hybrid is insurable.

I would have put the NA II on that list. It really gave me hope. Because of you I tried the Hybrid and love that one as well. So now I am set with interfaces. Workig or tweeking so everything works together.

If ever another interface comes along that is a nasal with nothing in front of my face I may try it.
I can do this, I will do this.

Pillow

Post by Arizona-Willie » Sun Dec 03, 2006 10:10 am

am using a Tempurpedic memory foam pillow ... the great big one. I turn it sideways so it is running lengthwise down the bed. That gives me a narrow pillow but long. Then I prop about half of it up on the head board which shortens it. These pillows are HUGE.

Then I can hang my Activa mask over either side and I can sleep on my stomach again too.

I've been doing this for about a week and it is working out quite well. Works well for side, tummy, or back sleeping.

I think these pillows are more expensive than the pappillow but I got them to throw the pillow and fancier mattress cover in when I bought the Tempurpedic mattress ( love that mattress ).

You might try a smaller size or a different brand of the memory foam. I've heard Target has some that work very well.

I have both sizes. I bought the travel size to take whenever we fly places (only a couple of times a year), but it also works to use it on top of a thinner pillow. It allows the mask to hang over the side and is very small and will pack nicely in a suitcase. The bigger pappillow I received is a little thick for me. I am going to try sitting on it while I watch tv or surf the web to flatten it out a little. I do like the shape and support level. I did buy the pillowcases they sell for both pillows.

The PAPillows come with a fitted pillow case (100% cotton interlock knit) and you can also purchase extra ones seperately.

I just bought my pillow last week:

I, too, am used to a soft pillow and find this (double edge) pillow very comfortable. Not too soft, but not hard like the memory pillow. The papillow is designed so the mask hangs over the edge. I find I never have to move or "fluff" my pillow in the night. Just turn over, the sides are the same.

From package:

dimensions: 14"x10"x3.5"

machine wash and dry

filled with "synthetic feathers"
Wishing you dreams!!!
