Dude, you're a raging imbecile.

YOU said (and I quote) "the *only* reason for using distilled water"

You. Are. Wrong.

There are more reasons a person would want to use distilled water and not tap water. Many people have untested water sources. Many people have contaminated water sources. And many people in areas of the country you've apparently never visited have water that contain and release offensive gasses.

You're. Just. Wrong.

Stop being a troll.

Tap water has lots of stuff in it that people might not want to have pushed into their lungs under pressure.
This is a ridiculous statement. CPAP's don't push anything into your lungs, including air.
You're ridiculous.
And yet, not wrong.

Not the least of which are objectionable smells such as sulfur and chlorine, and peace of mind that the water they are using is allegedly pure.

Tap water plus washing your reservoir is not equivalent to using demineralized/distilled water.

Whether it's clinically significant is another issue.
You misunderstand the *only* reason for using distilled water. That being to avoid mineral buildup.

Manuals in *many* other countries DO NOT SAY to use distilled water.
You're ridiculous. If you want to smell rotten eggs all night, you're welcome to your preference but not your uninformed wrong and non-responsive opinions stated as if and masquerading as fact.
My tap water doesn't smell like rotten eggs... neither, I'll wager, does the tap water of most people.

The *fact* is, 'distilled water' is not something that shows up in cpap manuals around the world.

Resmed European manual: https://www.resmed.com/uk/dam/documents ... r1_eng.pdf

Page 4, item 4. "4. Open the humidifier and fill it with water up to the maximum water level mark."

WITH WATER... not "with distilled water'.

I realize that since you have nothing whatsoever to back up your claims, you've resorted to lame personal attacks. you've got my sympathy, however, you're still wrong.

Your have an 'opinion'... and like assholes, most of us have them. that doesn't mean that your *OPINION* is any more valid than anybody elses.

*IF* someone has smelly water, then they likely already have water filters to make it more palatable for drinking, and using that filtered water is perfectly fine.. you'll note that their filtered water is *still not distilled*.

The fact that I say that you're full of shit does not make me a troll.

Since you've clearly realized that you have no valid arguments and therefore can nothing left but insults... I'll just let you have whatever you consider as a witty comeback as the last word.

You are 100% correct, your opinions do not make you a troll, the fact that you demand everyone in the entire forum agree with you or be berated endlessly makes you a troll.

I use any source of water that I have, be it distilled, demineralized, or tap. It's just going to be heated until it evaporates, thereby producing humidity in the air.

If it's safe to drink, then it is safe to use in a CPAP. The caveat is, if you use tap, you'll have to rinse your tank out or clean it to remove the minerals that are left after the evaporation process.

Edit: If you live in Flint, MI or have an untested water supply, you're probably not drinking it, and also probably not using it for CPAP. Why would someone use water in their CPAP that is similarly not safe to drink?

This isn't rocket science, although we can have that discussion too if preferred.

Edit 2: I'm not entirely sure how having a debate over the process of water can be deemed as "demanding" that everyone agree. Doesn't look like any demand I've ever seen....PALERIDER, PUT DOWN THAT GUN! YOUR DEMANDS WILL NOT BE MET!

Not my area of expertise, but I'm intrigued by orbital mechanics; they are not intuitive to me. It's probably a very demanding science. Speaking of which...

Do we really want to get into a discussion or a deconstruction of my choice of a verb, or can we simply agree that I'm somewhat annoyed by his approach towards me and others? ; - )

Every time I come to the forum it's the same thing.

I'm pushing 60.

I had been secretly boxing at the youth center, and I was savage and employed a strategy to "finish the fight" at the start and not trade blows.

...and you should know that with my birthday January and my father's 6'6" height, I was the oldest and biggest guy in the class. I am 6'3" and 350 pounds now, a bit imposing and I don't let anyone bully me any more, in any forum, and I don't give a flying fahoogie what any of you dicks believe is reality or an after school special. This IS the way it works in real life.

Sigh....let's get back on topic please....or you know what might happen.

The topic is... do you just have to use distilled water if we either don't want to or it's not easily available?
The answer is no...you can safely use any water that is safe to drink or you want to drink.
It will not hurt the humidifier per se.

The topic is NOT....let's go name calling or bully bashing or whatever just because we don't like (or agree with) what someone else has said no matter how much that particular person is annoying or even how big of an asshole you might think someone is.

Thank you in advance for your prompt compliance...I am sure.

Exactly, since it's a good assumption the source water won't have a lot of impurities that would make it through the demineralization process, whatever it is.

I feel it's important to note that using highly organic or H2S water even once could permeate the internal pap components and you'll smell it for a loooong time as if the machine came from a smoker's home, especially if you're sensitive to smells.

Please explain just *how* the smell will migrate upstream against the flow of 20-50 liters per minute of air to have a chance of permitting the internals.

Unlike cigarette smoke which is pulled into the intake.
