I doubt very much that anyone uses the regular water in their Cpap machine. You would need to clean the humidifier every day. The very scarcity of distilled water backs up what the pharmacist told me.
I live in Adelaide and use filtered tap water in my humidifier. (Rinsed daily and washed weekly) I just returned from a European holiday.
In Greece I used bottled drinking water (not mineral water)
On a 17 day Windstar cruise I used filtered ship water (reverse osmosis)
In Switzerland I used tap water.

The only (slight) problem I had was in Switzerland, where although the tap water is amongst the cleanest in the world, it is highly mineralised. There was a white film developing on the bottom of the humidifier chamber within a few days.

All Australian tap water is safe to drink. Most tap water has a low mineral content. Adelaide is an exception, with relatively high salt and calcium, depending on the time of the year. Still, i have not noticed any build-up in the humidifier, I expect because I 'dump and rinse' every day.

why were you sipping what was supposed to go into your humidifier?

The bast place to find demineralised water in Australia is in automotive stores such as Super Cheap Auto, Auto One, Auto barn etc. It's used to put in car batteries.

BTW, sodium bicarbonate is your best friend if you want to clean the mineral deposits from your humidifier tank.

I could taste it just by using my Cpap machine. It had a slightly sweet smell and was very off putting. I get that we can use any clean water. The one night I did that in Italy in June I had a white film on the inside of my humidifier so I did not think that was ideal. You all are a bunch of jokers!

I have a question, does using demoralized water on CPAP cause any harm to my health? I can not find distilled water, I asked manufacturer and they said to use distilled water and they don't want to comment on demineralized.

No, but it causes the water to lose what little hope they might still have.

No, one needs an *acid* not a *base* to remove mineral deposits.

Vinegar, and citric acid are acids.

Sodium bicarbonate is a *base*.

The white film is mineral deposits.

they do not matter.

Just clean them out every few weeks with an acid wash, such as vinegar.

About many things, yes.

About NOT needing any special water in your cpap... no.

Just use tap water, already.

The ONLY reason to use distilled water is the debatable 'convenience' of not having to rinse out mineral deposits on a regular basis...

which is more inconvenient? finding hard to find distilled water, or lugging big jugs of it....or a quick vinegar soak every couple weeks?

Tap water has lots of stuff in it that people might not want to have pushed into their lungs under pressure. Not the least of which are objectionable smells such as sulfur and chlorine, and peace of mind that the water they are using is allegedly pure.

Tap water plus washing your reservoir is not equivalent to using demineralized/distilled water.

Whether it's clinically significant is another issue.

This is a ridiculous statement. CPAP's don't push anything into your lungs, including air.

You misunderstand the *only* reason for using distilled water. That being to avoid mineral buildup.

Manuals in *many* other countries DO NOT SAY to use distilled water.

You're ridiculous. If you want to smell rotten eggs all night, you're welcome to your preference but not your uninformed wrong and non-responsive opinions stated as if and masquerading as fact.

My tap water doesn't smell like rotten eggs... neither, I'll wager, does the tap water of most people.

The *fact* is, 'distilled water' is not something that shows up in cpap manuals around the world.

Resmed European manual: https://www.resmed.com/uk/dam/documents ... r1_eng.pdf

Page 4, item 4. "4. Open the humidifier and fill it with water up to the maximum water level mark."

WITH WATER... not "with distilled water'.

I realize that since you have nothing whatsoever to back up your claims, you've resorted to lame personal attacks. you've got my sympathy, however, you're still wrong.
