It sounds like a Eustachian tube problem not a CPAP problem. If over the counter decongestants don't help I would see a doctor.

If air is blowing out your ears, there is a problem that needs medical attention.

The good thing about XPAP use is it helps you live until morning, that way you get another day to enjoy your problems... Yes I have allergies, take OTC med's and 3,000 units of Vit "C", daily, it keeps me going, but it's not XPAP causing the problem, it's a defect in my body. The XPAP adds a factor that shows up the defect. Stopping XPAP would not be a option for me as I like waking up in the morning.

Your ears are connected to your throat, so XPAP pressure will go into your ears, For most people it's ok, but if you have a defect air can go out of the ear. (hole in the eardrum. probably the tubes have a check valve that's supposed to hold back pressure, but allow drainage). My left ear has been having problems plugging up every day sometimes lasting all day, it's a problem, but not as much of one as not waking up would cause. If it bothered I'd see a Good Doctor, I could trust!

Maybe a XPAP mask with ear inserts connected to the mask pressure, that would cancel the flow out. Maybe rubber ear plugs could stop the flow. We used Expanding foam ones at work, but I hated wearing them, so not I deal with the buzzing. Jim

Out of curiosity. Have you recently moved to higher, or lower elevation?

I've had CPAP therapy cause ear issues. The lower the pressure you can use that will successfully treat your apnea the better it may be.

I sleep exclusively on my side. I never wake up on my back. At one point I slept with the wall behind me that prevented me from rolling onto my back. The training stuck.

I had a special sleep study done with me sleeping normally on my side. I was able to be controlled in the lab setting at 10cm down from 16cm. I had to bump it up at home for comfort reasons to 12.

This solved my aerophagia issues but it also had the salubrious effect of ending my ears getting filled with air and lasting for half a day until they returned to normal pressure.

Again---see your doctor.
Cpap does not do that unless there are other conditions.

I don't see why it can't. The pressure needs somewhere to go. If your lungs are block, your LES is strong enough to keep the air out of your stomach, and your mouth is closed tight or taped, the pressure very well might go to your ears.

No, the pressure doesn't need somewhere to go.

Different people have different levels of pressure needed to affect their ear's pressure normalization anatomy, the eustachian tubes. That doesn't mean they necessarily have a disease.

Are you on medications that can thin mucus? That can have an effect on eustachian tube activity.

Another thing you might want to try might include not eating or drinking (especially hot drinks) and/or not gargling before bed to try to keep from thinning your mucus.

Why would your lungs be blocked ?

The pressure does not go anywhere, If you dont have any preconditions such as perforated ear drum then the CPAP pressure is not high enough to cause ear problems

Because that's just not how it works.

Pressure is the result of a flow, in this case air, NOT having anywhere to go.
