OSCAR rebuilding and oximeter problem

Post by Dave Wise » Mon May 13, 2019 10:37 am

Newbie here. I had some difficulty importing and syncing oximeter data. If I said to use the cpap session time instead of the device clock, the time was wrong - morning instead of the previous night. There were several awkward points in manual time entry.

I also crashed OSCAR importing from the device (as opposed to a .SpO2 file), but next time I tried it, it worked. (OSCAR 1.0.1 x64 on Windows 10 x64, importing from a CMS50F with v6.1 firmware, with cpap data from a ResMed S10 AutoSense For Her.)

If this is interesting, I can work up a more detailed report.

We are aware of a problem where oximetry data is imported using UTC time instead of local time and plan to fix that problem. Would that explain the time discrepancy you experienced?

More detailed reports are always welcome. I would add the report to our other reports so that whoever works on that problem can see all the reports.

Sorry for the delay. I carried the oximeter to work in my knapsack this morning and it got turned on and wiped out last night's recording. I'll try again tomorrow.
I bet it was using UTC as you described. I started recording at 9-something PM and OSCAR thought it was 4-something AM the following morning. I'm in the US Pacific time zone, which is UTC minus 8, or 7 with Daylight Saving Time.

Meanwhile, I have a different question. Can OSCAR do direct import from device when it's running on a Mac? It said it couldn't find a device. I looked for drivers and found that Silicon Labs only makes them for Windows. (Then I created a Windows VM in VMWare Fusion, only to discover the device had gotten wiped.)

ALL waveforms for ALL days are blank! ("Plots Disabled".)

I think I got here by importing oximetry on a day without CPAP data.
I Rebuilt CPAP Data, and it indicated success, but when I clicked the Daily tab, OSCAR closed.
When I brought it up again, it said "No CPAP data has been imported yet".
When I Rebuilt CPAP data, it indicated success, but the Dailies were still blank.

I Purged Oximetry[Current Day] and Rebuilt again, no change.

This happened with Oscar 1.0.1-r-1 in a Windows 10/64 VMWare Fusion 10 virtual machine hosted by MacOS 10.14 .
Do you want files? (You'll have to tell me where to look. When I opened About OSCAR and clicked Show Data Folder, nothing happened.)

I just noticed that it's also no longer displaying an Event plot. Not "Disabled", just completely gone.
I've done View | Reset Graph Layout , and File | Preferences | Waveforms | Reset Defaults , no change.

Thank you for the detailed report; I have logged it. Your report suggests several strange behaviors. OSCAR closing spontaneously would seem to be a crash.

When you clicked on "Show Data Folder," a normal Windows file manager window should have opened with your data folder in it. Might it have been hidden behind some other window?

I suggest creating a new profile and importing your data to the new profile. That should give you a fresh start. Let us know if that works.

Can I ask a question any reason why you are running a VM ? OSCAR runs fine natively on a Mac it may be a glitch in the display/file/VM/system

Re: OSCAR rebuilding and oximeter problem

Post by Dave Wise » Thu May 16, 2019 12:26 pm

I was running OSCAR in a VM because I had the mistaken idea that there was no Mac driver for the oximeter. (I simply forgot to scroll down!) Running OSCAR natively on MacOS, I was able to Rebuild CPAP Data and get graphs again, not just native but in the VM too. (That is, rebuild natively made them show up in the VM.) There's probably some file access problem across the guest-host divide, but it's not the usual one because I already set everything read-write and it didn't help. (Note: Folders always show as Read-Only even though you can create and delete files.)

And now that I installed the Mac serial driver, I can import from the oximeter natively. Although there was definitely a problem in the VM, it's no longer a show-stopper for me. Now I'm back to the time-editing glitches, the worst of which (UTC) you're already aware of.
My workaround for UTC offset when trying to sync to the CPAP session is to temporarily select CPAP to view the time, then select Oximeter and enter the (corrected) time from CPAP. This got me within about 30 seconds, and I believe I can do better with practice.
I discovered a trick of removing the oximeter sensor at the same time as I turn off the CPAP, when I get up to pee. This makes an obvious gap in the oximeter data, which I can line up with the corresponding gap in the CPAP data.

By the way, what does Data | Automatic Oximetry Cleanup do?

Thanks,
Dave

Revisited the OSCAR crash. I can reproduce it consistently running natively in Windows.
OSCAR 1.0.1-r-1 x64 in Windows 10 x64 Enterprise.
Contec CMS50F oximeter with v6.1 firmware.
Bring up OSCAR.
Import today's CPAP data.
Import oximeter data direct from device.
Starts downloading, then crashes.
Unhandled win32 exception from Qt5Core.dll, Stack overflow.

Thanks, BD. I have Visual Studio on that laptop, so if you want to compile a debug version of OSCAR, I might be able to get you better code screenshots. Whatever, just let me know.

I don't expect to be working on this myself, as I don't have an oximeter and am not working with import issues. But others are. fwiw, the Windows version of Oscar is compiled with mingw rather than Visual Studio.

Where does OSCAR save data? I had a mishap this morning and I want to save a copy before doing anything else.
I imported one oximeter file, commanded Rebuild, and OSCAR crashed. When I started it again, it acted like there was no data to display. Debug Pane mentioned it failed to read a summary file. I'll get details tonight.

If your using windows it’s in your Documents folder by default called OSCAR_Data

Thank you. I see files there but Debug Pane says it couldn't find one it wanted. It also says "no machines in profile". That sounds dire. Here's a copy and paste of the Debug Pane.

You are right -- those messages are not good as it means OSCAR could not find your CPAP machine folder.

Please post the contents of your "C:/Users/David_Wise/Documents/OSCAR_Data/Profiles/" and "C:/Users/David_Wise/Documents/OSCAR_Data/Profiles/David Wise/" directory. By "rebuilding," do you mean you used Data/Rebuild CPAP Data/<yourmachine>? Did the rebuild process seem to get started? How much free space do you have on your hard drive?
