Re: Sleep study costs and expectations
Wow on the taping! Seems like a lot but I've actually seen worse (better?). I would imagine most of the extra pieces are because of the facial hair. I do not usually have a beard or stache and can typically get by with one or two pieces. The type of tape I use looks the same or very similar.
I've upped my pressure a bit as suggested. I haven't had a decent night for the past few nights so I haven't even bothered looking at my charts. I believe it is other factors and not related to the pressure increase.
Last night was terrible. Didn't go to bed until 2am and still was not able to fall asleep right away (usually not a problem). Then woke up multiple times during the night. Not sure what caused the wake-ups but it wasn't leaks.
I think the first time I was sweaty under the covers and that woke me up just enough to be aware that the neck support thing I was wearing was restricting me. Once I took it off and switched to my other one, I was fully awake and fighting a severe nostril tickle which would subsequently result in a sneeze. As I realize I could not suppress the sneeze any longer I rip the mask off and try desperately to remove the mouth tape before the sneeze comes but to no success as the sneeze comes and my brains feel like they are trying to exit through my nostrils. At this point I am walking to the bathroom to blow my nose in an effort to keep the airway clear and praying the tickle would not come back. I never looked at the clock because I knew it would only have negative psychological effects but I imagine it was around 3:30am.
The second time I woke up I think was from a bad pillow situation but then came the itch/tickle in my nostril and the same sneeze routine all over again. Again I had no interest in looking at the clock. It had to be close to 5am. I think it was still dark.
The next time I get a "solid" 6 hours with no serious wake-ups, I'll post a chart. Unless someone wants to see otherwise.

Yes, the strips that angle up on my cheeks are to fix a constant leak that would develop at the corners of my mouth. I absolutely think this is due to the beard. I've thought about extending them down to take the place of the piece where my soul patch used to be.Sluggish wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 3:50 pmWow on the taping! The sneezing you mention sounds um... uncomfortable. Hope that doesn't happen to me - with both the mask and mouth taped, id be bound to blow out my eyeballs.

I've posted about the inner nostril tickle/sneeze thing before and didn't get much traction. I think only one other person said they'd experienced it which I found surprising. Even if I just blow a fine stream of air on the back of my hand it creates an odd tickle(ish) sensation. I think that's what's happening inside my nose but the sensitivity causes a sneeze. I think I read somewhere sneezing has to do with light also. Who knows?

I HATE having to have a big sneeze or cough while I’m masked and taped! My record so far is 3 times in one night. Ugh.

That's what it was with me.. it never itched in my nose, but rather on, or around... So it took forever to figure out that it was the air blowing the little hairs around, and the brain thinking *BUG! EEEEK* and making me scratch. LolChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 9:00 amSome have suggested regular trimming of the nostril hairs. (Use rounded-tip manicure scissors.)
