How to change pressure

Post by Becksta » Tue Apr 30, 2019 2:32 am

Hi, I am one week new to the weird world of cpap - a month ago I didn’t even know I had OSA. Just knew I have been tired for ever... my question is, how do I change the pressure on my ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset? Or does Auto set mean I can’t? Currently seems to be set at 10 and I’m finding it a bit high. Also have a ClimateAir heated hose and Eson nose mask. Which is fine until I move a nanometer then leaks.
Thanks :)

I might choose to increase my EPR instead of lowering my pressure, if comfort was my issue.

One other thing you may want to enable the ramp feature if it's not on.
This is a comfort setting that starts the machine at a very low pressure
and then over a 30 to 45 minuets reaches full pressure. Some people
find it helpful some like me never had the need for it.

I move a nanometer then leaks.
------------------------------------------>
To reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.

- Start a thread in cpaptalk asking for help. Subject: Need Help with Mask xxxxxx

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.

Note: Links to just some of the mask manufacturers' instructional videos can be found on the forum host's website - https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks.php and https://www.youtube.com/

welcome to the zoo! jnk has answered the question regarding pressure. i'm just happy to see someone come in and ask that. so many of us when we are new think the doctor is going shoot us or something if we change pressure. you've got the right attitude, you are going to go far!

as to the leaks, why the answer is to sleep stock still.

failing that, you may want to look for some you tube videos on mask fitting for that particular mask.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Good thing the A-Mighty-Wind-2 people (I loved their first movie, btw) must want people to be able to know machine-run hours and all.

Hi all
Thanks for your responses, I found what I needed in the awesome Table of Contents - huge thanks to whoever put that together!
Had a pretty good night last night - didn’t wake up drowning and actually felt like I slept! Looking forward to another good night. I dropped my pressure slightly and reduced humidity and it helped heaps. I prefer ramp off as I think I drop off quite quickly and having ramp on makes me feel like I am struggling for air.
Fingers crossed for tonight :)

There is a starting pressure, which is likely set at 5.

THEN there is the therapy pressure, which has lower and upper limits.

Then there is the 'ramp' option.

You can turn ramp on or off. When on, it keeps the pressure low until it believes you are asleep, then slowly increases the pressure to therapy level.

The 10 you mention is likely the low pressure for therapy, with 20 being the high (max the machine is capable of),

You need to know how well you are responding to the therapy before you start changing the pressure,
and not be changing it on how you think it's feeling.

Checking your data (SDCard in your machine) with OSCAR and posting it here will help others advise you better.

IF you have ramp on, and feel like there isn't enough air, you can set the starting pressure higher.

I bumped mine from 5 to 6, and like it quite a bit better that way.
