I always use distilled water. When I travel I let the hotel know before hand I will need a gallon of distilled water which they usually supply. If not I use bottled (purified not spring). Never tap. I don't want to inhale whatever is in the water off gassing. Paranoid? Perhaps, but won't drink it so don't want to inhale it.
Paranoid yes, studies have confirmed that what the water is "off gassing" is water vapor. If crud was going along with it, then it wouldn't get left behind in the tank, and need to be cleaned out later.

If you want to be paranoid, that's fine, do whatever makes you happy, but let's not mislead people into thinking that distilled water is somehow required.
I do agree with you. What I mean by off gassing is the chlorine/fluorine in the water. Solids, of course, will be left behind.
There is no fluorine in the water, if there was, it would make your CPAP burst into flames. Fluoride isn't the same as fluorine, any more than table salt is the same as chlorine and sodium.
Semantics. Any way you dissect what I wrote still don't want to inhale it for 7 hours if I don't have to.

Obviously you could use tap water if you choose. In fact on my FB feed the Dreamstation Go promo video shows the tank being filled from the tap.

I'd worry more about DDT and Roundup, and maybe drugs dropped into your drink. Jim

I'm sorry, but no. The difference in elemental fluorine and fluoride is huge. One is harmless, and the other will dissolve your skin, burn iron, and eat glass.

I always use distilled water at home, but not while traveling to other than the US or Canada.

You can use any water that's safe to drink, expect if carbonated, colored, discolored, or flavored.

Here's an excellent video about Fluorine, and they even explain the difference in fluorine and fluoride at the end:

Fluorine, deadly, Fluoride, good for your teeth.

Distilled water makes using cpap a little less of a chore.
Reason enough for me.
Our local water is so full of lime that people use water softeners to get normal use
out of things like toilets and washing machines, which fail due to limestone deposits.
Some places have naturally soft water--distilled water is not needed there.
Yeah our water is the same as what you are talking about. We have white deposits on all our faucets that need cleaning often. If we use tap water for our coffee maker, it has to have vinegar run thru it about once every 3-4 weeks or it takes forever for the water to drip through. I use distilled at home in my Dreamstation, but traveling I just use bottled drinking water. Easy to pack too. We only drink bottled water at home.

Hey all.
I’ve done a search of topics and couldn’t quite find what I was looking for. I’m travelling to Mexico next week and am worried about the potential lack of distilled water for my humidifier. Would you think it’s better to run the humidifier with bottled water for a week, or don’t use the humidifier at all (ie leave it empty).

Thoughts?
Regular bottled water is fine. I've only been to Mexico once since using cpap. They did not have distilled water. I was staying with family (I had an exchange sister when I was in high school, and she got married a couple years ago). They had a fancy filtration system for their water, so they didn't have to boil water or buy bottled. I used that water for my cpap. I was there for about a week. No problems other than an under cooked burger in the airport on the way home.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I often use bottled water for my humidifier and it's okay. It works well. There are no issues. I was also worried about it but I can't manage without a humidifier.
