I'm a cpap user since 87. Have always had mixed events at beginning 28/hr. Had recent study, down to 13/hr, 8 obs. and 7 centrals. My meds are changing all the time so I'm looking at a auto cpap, resmed, with heater.
Wondering how a regular cpap can deal with centrals, or should I look at the new adapt? I know I don't have nearly the problem some do, but it still affects my sleep. My dme uses resmed and likes the fact that they can connect? and adjust remotely, or maybe just read my stats. Have been on a respironics bipap-pro for several years and hoping to improve sleep. Would appreciate feedback on the situation. Thanks
NEW RESMED ADAPT- FOR CENTRAL AND OBSTRUCTIVE
Since '87.. wow! I should be asking you questions.
I can't offer an expert opinion, sorry, but you might also try http://www.apneasupport.org/forum-4.html (corrected link courtesy of rested girl)
..and a jpg scan of the relevant sections of your PSG might be handy.
My wild guess would be that a regular cpap may not treat you and you might need a unit with at least a BPM function - but I could be wrong. The Adapt SV might not suit you either, or it might be perfect. It seems it may treat some types of centrals really well, but perhaps runaway with others. The jury is still out AFAIK. Nice technology though; I'd love to try one.
BTW, I wish I had started xpap in 87. Good luck, and I hope you find an answer.

You do not say what machine etc you use and you should fill in your profile to display this.
I have been using pap since 96, cpap, 9 of those 10 years, and apap for the past year or so.
I must say that my treatment has been very effective, but until I started apap, I had no idea of what was going on with my sleep.
With my remstar plus with encore pro and my encore, I am able to understand in infinitely more detail and understanding.
I think that you, even with your long usage would benefit from this understanding as you are evidently very knowledgeable of your condition.
One day, I hope, the standard will be apap with software for those able to utilize the information.
I venture to say that the answers to your questions are in the data you could be getting. Get an APAP!!!
