ResMed Model AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her

Post by needadvice123 » Tue Apr 02, 2019 9:17 pm

My wife and I purchased a ResMed
Model
AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her in august 2018 , since then the heat plate has failed two times, carelink replaced it twice,
but had no insight as to why it failed twice.....my concern is that once the warrenty is over, I will not be able to fix /replace the unit
for financial reasons.
Is this a common problem? Are we causing this?
this is her first cpap,so any advice would be very welcome!
also she cleans it every day with a vinegar /water solution.....also we are curious about the need for the so clean type units? Are they needed? they seem very costly
thanks for your help

welcome! are you saying the cpap machine was replaced 2x or that the plate was replaced 2x?

as to soclean, it doesn't have a very good reputation around here. this topic comes up quit often here. read this to see the latest thread-

Exactly what and how does she use the vinegar /water?
Once the tank or hose is removed from the cabinet, they can be cleaned.
The cabinet should not get wet--at all. Just wipe with a VERY slightly damp thin cloth.

SoClean is garbage... keep your money and don't worry about cleaning 'the machine' as such - the outside just needs dusting, and forget the inside. Just what is she cleaning with vinegar/water - the mask?

If so, she'll use it up faster than necessary unless there's some unusual scum or ?? on it that normally wouldn't be there. Baby wipes weekly and maybe mild soap and water otherwise if at all, are all that are necessary. Don't bother at all with hoses - lots of us never do... big waste of time.

Can't answer re the plate (diff. machine) but others should.

Failure rates for any ResMed model machine are very low and not common place at all. Highly unusual that you have had the same problem twice now. Over the years I have had probably a half a dozen ResMed machines and never had one fail on me.
My current machine is the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her and I have been using it every night since Aug of 2017...and it works perfectly and it wasn't even brand new when I got it.

You don't need the SoClean. You still have to do soap and water cleaning prior to nuking your equipment with the SoClean because the SoClean can't actually remove any snot, slobber, gunk, facial oils, grime, etc....all it does is maybe nuke the snot, slobber, grime, etc so any germs or bacteria or maybe killed...and guess what...as soon as you put your equipment back on those same germs and bacteria that are on your skin will go right back onto your equipment...just from touching you.

Coming on 10 years on cpap....soap and water is all I have ever used and not a lot of that.
I don't even use vinegar because I think it stinks to high heaven....hate the smell.. Hot soapy water wash and rinse...that's all I have ever done to clean anything.

As has often been stated her on the forum, we all clean to the level we are comfortable with. When I first started using my machine, the therapist I worked with told me she cleaned her and her husband's equipment once a week. I decided right then that there was no reason to clean things more often than that. The only reason to ever need to use vinegar is to remove mineral build up in the water reservoir. If you don't like the smell of the vinegr, use a little lemon juice.

Carelink replaced the entire unit twice, and had no info as to why the heat plate failed.
she removes the water tank to clean, never gets the machine wet.
thanks
she seems to be having sinus issues, is why i asked about the soclean, however now i know it is a waste of time!!! and money!!
thanks

When you say "sinus issues" are you talking about nasal congestion or drainage or itchy feeling?

She may need either more humidity or less humidity....it's really one of those things with cpap that varies widely among the individuals.
Some people do better with a lot of added moisture and some people do better with less or even none added moisture.

Google "cpap rhinitis" and see if those symptoms mimic hers.

What is the difference of the For Her model anyway? Besides the flowers on the front. There is a For Her APAP mode right? Anyone know what changes in the algorithm?

It's listed in the manual. Which I don't have handy here, Google "Resmed Airsense 10 clinical manual"

The regular AirSense 10 AutoSet has 2 modes of operation....cpap mode and apap (auto adjusting) mode.
The AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her has 3 modes of operation...the cpap mode and apap mode that the regular autoset has plus a 3rd special apap mode. The algorithm is slightly different and the difference (as much as we are told) is stated in the clinical provider manual.

"New and improved" . . .
In this case, there is a difference, but even I can barely tell the difference.
My for her is set in the for her mode because it is a little more comfy.
Comfort is huge when sleep is the goal.

Interesting. It sounds like the APAP For Her mode is superior even though I'm a 80kg male. Is there any reason not to use it?

If you keep having apneas above the pressure that the for her stops responding.

Did not work for me. OA's started cropping up when I used it.
I am 6'3" and 220 lbs of what used to be rock hard muscle. Not so much any more.

By the way. As all the macho men say on here "those are leaves, not flowers".
