newbit with Airfit 30 needs help

Post by dallasdave22 » Tue Apr 02, 2019 2:41 pm

Hello,

I'm new CPAP user. My first mask was a DreamWear. While the mask itself worked great, I'm a side sleeper that rolls over a lot, and I couldn't deal with the hose at the top of my head. Every time I rolled over the hose would bang around and I'd have to wake up enough to move it.

I was then given an Airfit 30 to try. I thought the hose going down the chin would work better, and it does. Only now I'm dealing with really bad mask leaks. My "score" is running mid-40's with 35-40 leaks a min and almost 15 events per hour.

I did everything the physicians assistant told me - I kept it a little lose and when the pressure increased and the leaks started I slightly tightened the mask. I kept making the mask tighter but it didn't help much.

It's like the Airfit 30 mask is a thinner plastic than the DreamWear and so it's more likely to move and leak.

I'm currently googling for liners to stop the leaks and found this forum so I thought I'd try asking for help :)

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us.

Lots of people have leak issues when they start off on CPAP. Over time, we come up with ways to deal with the leaks.

I have not used the mask you are asking about, but I know there are lots of videos out there about how to deal with leaks.

The liners are also pretty helpful - and you can make your own out of soft t shirt fabric. Just cut a shape that will fit between your skin and the mask where they touch.

Others will probably drop by soon with more ideas. You can also use the search bar at the top left of the screen.

Have you tried an Amara View? Its made by the same people that make the dreamwear but the hose comes out the front.

Thanks - I'm going to try a liner.

Remzzzs doesn't seem to have one that fits the F30 however, so I might try the pad a cheek cloth one.

Before you give up on the Dreamwear....look into a hose support. That keeps the tension off the hose and keeps it from moving around as much. Also consider a hose blanket/wrap as these cut down noise significantly when the hose moves and touches the headboard or other things.

Based on my personal experience, the Dreamwear hose mount at the top is far better for when you move positions a lot at night. You can literally never have to touch the hose. Even forget about it.

If you like the front mount hose, the P10 and Bravida masks are very comfortable and seal better than what you are using. There may be others you like as well.

Agree with every bit of this. Including the personal experience. Stick with it for bit. This PAP business requires a little determination and ingenuity sometimes. :D
