This forum would shine brightest if there were some enforcement over what kind of content was allowed. I mean really, when I am searching for threads relevant to my condition here, I have to sift through post after post of jokes and unnecessary commentary which clouds my ability to source relevant data.
JediMark has a legitimate concern here and half of the responses are memes and random banter. I'm not trying to be the fun police, but man is it frustrating as a user. HackerNews is a forum that has a very high standard for their discussion criteria and because of that they attract a smart, civilized audience and generate a lot of useful information. I think a lot of the forum rules which they mention should just apply here as a no-brainer, especially the following: "Be civil. Don't say things you wouldn't say face-to-face. Don't be snarky. Comments should get more civil and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive." Doesn't this seem like it should be common sense?

I think many here are really calling for civility but, for some reason, the site owners give PaleRider a free pass and our moderator is limited in her options.
There are many useful help forums without the drama. This is not one of them.

Re: OT: constant cyber-harassment
Bullying is often exhibited by adolescents. We can hope that PR is actually a 13 old youth who will mature out of the difficult maturation stage that he or she is processing through. In the interim, ignoring his/her rants can be effective. Bully’s do not tend to persist if their behavior is not rewarded by recognition. The majority of the advice that PR offers, shows no great insight. He/she repeatedly tells people seeking help, to turn up their minimum, set the machine limit to wide open, and occasionally reduce pressure support.

Unfortunately he gets recognition & encouragement here because he has good advice although is is sometimes cloaked in attitude. Notice in his signature he tells others go ignore my posts wile he himself does not take his own advice.bombayone wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 3:58 amBullying is often exhibited by adolescents. He figures he knows everything and is never wrong. In this case I have more information than he has simce he was not involved in one of the side forums where this happened. I know that because I controlled that venue.

Re: OT: constant cyber-harassment
If you look at just page 1 here on the forum you will see Palerider offering help and advice in about 15-20 threads of people asking for help. People that want to help themselves are getting helped here. In my opinion, the bashing he is getting in this thread is unfair.nikkwong wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 11:48 pmchunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 11:20 pmNikkwong: you might be happier on another forum, where feelings outweigh help.
EDIT:
BTW, I am not trying to be combative or spark unnecessary drama. But, I think the goal of this forum and it's contributors should be to contribute the greatest amount of help to the greatest number of people. I just don't see how the attitude of certain members is helping to achieve this goal. Even if nothing formal is to be changed, at least a slight shift by frequent forum posters to being a bit more mindful about how their responses may come off to newcomers/the rest of us who are cpap-exhausted may go a long way. Pugsy + that granny character (can't remember the username specifically) by the way, are awesome and i'm certain their wealth of knowledge and helpful attitude have improved if not even saved many lives.
I’ve been here a bit over a year. I’ve noticed that its just a handful of people who help others with their therapy. I appreciate every one of them. I certainly dont have the patience to answer the same questions over and over again.
I have no complaints about this forum. If you dont like someone there is a Foe button.

The entire reason that I tell others to ignore your crap is why I don't. Because frequently, you post crap, you post misleading, or flat out wrong things that hurt those that don't know better. Just like with DH, people need to refute the bad information.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 5:19 amNotice in his signature he tells others go ignore my posts wile he himself does not take his own advice.

Re: OT: constant cyber-harassment
I will never understand people that leave forums they obviously do not want to be at, go to a forum and try to change it into a copy of the boring forums they do not want to stay at. Find a forum you like with all the controls and rules you claim you are comfortable with and have a nice, happy and comfortable stay.
No one made you log on to this thread or forum.
Or suck it up, be strong and stay. I really don't care.
I like it here just the way it is. Reminds me of the dysfunctional family I grew up in.

Re: OT: constant cyber-harassment
Oh, I think most who have been here 10 years or longer know you well. You are a smart man when it comes to computers and sleep apnea and yes, I can safely say that you've helped many people. What you don't know (or care to know) is anything about the human spirit. Your need to be that 'special' expert far exceeds any good you may have done. Your 'signature' is a joke and I hope the people on it take it for what it is.
This may be the last post in this thread because I'm sure Pugsy will lock it momentarily. The way it is here is that you (pr) can say anything you want to anyone, but if anyone says anything negative about you, the thread is locked.

that's not how this works. this is an off topic thread. as i posted earlier, pugsy has encouraged a duke it out thread. and behold, we have one.
there was a time when i would have agreed with your opinion of palerider. but i got over myself and learned to actually READ what he said, not what i interpreted.
and just to annoy those who don't like the pretty pictures-

Re: OT: constant cyber-harassment
OT threads.......common knowledge that you participate at you own risk since the gloves are off.
If you don’t like the atmosphere in OT threads.....don’t read them.
If you don’t want a bloody nose....don’t get in the middle of the fist swinging.
Yes, Johnny hopes that people willl grow up and play nice but he also knows he doesn’t always get what he hopes for.
Thus the OT Threads where the gloves are off.
I will repeat for the thousandth time.....just because someone doesn’t like what someone has said or how they say it or the tone as they perceive it....doesn’t mean that there is a reason for doing anything per the rules of agreement here and OT threads.
OT threads are in their own special little category. Don’t like it.....don’t read it.
If you want to blast someone for what they said to Mark or how they said it or the tone.....you have to blast more than one person. Many people including myself have told mark some cold hard facts of life.
If you don’t like someone....don’t read what they say. Use the Foe button....that’s what I do.
I say to myself “you are an asshole and I don’t want to waste my time reading what you say....and I engage the Foe button”
If I responded to every post where I thought someone was being an asshole I would never have time to do any real helping.
