How to stop ResMed's report transmission

Post by TheMaskedMan » Sun Mar 17, 2019 9:25 am

I just got a CPAP machine and was more than a little disturbed to learn that some third party--the folks who sold me the machine, maybe?--can access data accumulated on my machine. No one asked my permission to do that. I find it presumptuous, intrusive, and offensive. It's an uninvited invasion of privacy. It reports when I use the machine and for how long. That data is mine to divulge, not some third party's to seize at will. My insurnace is paying for the machine. My insurance paid for the sleep study. So I'd like to cancel the automatic uploads or accessibility of this information and provide it on an as-requested basis after determining who is requesting it, for what purpose, and under what terms of privacy--you know, standard HIPPA stuff.

So does anyone know how to disable to automatic reporting on the ResMed AirFit model F20?

I can absolutely guarantee that your ResMed AirFit F20 is not uploading any data to the cloud, nor allowing third parties to access your data.

Having said that, you may want to enable airplane mode on your CPAP device.

The ResMed AirFit F20 is a mask...It does not transmit data. If your machine was purchased by insurance, there is a compliance period where the insurance company can verify that you are using the machine. That is the 90 day compliance period. If you are not in compliance the insurance company can take the machine back or stop paying for it. No one else really cares what your machine shows.

I've never understood the rampant paranoia of some people who are afraid that some huge faceless multinational corporation was going to give a crap that they went to sleep a half hour late last night. *THEY DON'T CARE* ... but by analyzing the sleeping patterns of hundreds of thousands of people, they may be able to make their products treat us better.

Your insurance company has the right to know that you're using the equipment they paid for... that's all that they care.

Also, learn something, masks have no electronics, they don't even have little cameras or microphones, they're not going to rat you out to the authorities.... that frilly lace teddy you wear to bed can stay your secret.

Back in the late sixties, we would hear extraneous clicking on the phone line--before dialing a number.
The bullfrog susoected eavesdropping, so we used to talk to the "listeners".
We would insult and shame them for several minutes each time.
Eventually the clicks stopped.
Coincidence?
You decide.

When I'm having trouble falling asleep, I hold my breath and then exhale in short and long breaths, so I can send messages in my breath rate.

When my mother-in-law got her first phone, it was a party line. She lived on a farm in southern Missouri and didn't have a lot to do. When ever she heard the phone ring, she would pick it up and listen to the other conversations. She would even join in on the conversations some of the time. They threatened to remove her phone if she didn't stop, and after about a year and a half they were finally able to get he a single party line.

Once you have met your compliance requirement, you can put the machine in airplane mode and leave it there. Each time you turn it on or off it will remind you that you are in airplane mode. Just ignore that.

If you are truly worried about your data, put your machine in airplane mode and insert a data card in the slot. Before your face to face meeting with your doctor (required by most insurers and Medicare within 90 days of getting the machine) either take the card to your DME so that they can verify compliance for your insurer (yes, all the other data will be there, too). They may charge you for this (and may charge you for over the air compliance monitoring, too).
