Can't make heads or tails of my sleep apnea report
Can't make heads or tails of my sleep apnea report
Hello all... I have had sleep apnea for about 10 years now, i switch from an oral appliance to a REMstar Auto (System One 60 Series) apap machine, worn it every night since first day about 3 years ago using Nuance nasal pillows. Pretty comfortable, as it can get i guess. Full mask does not work for me as well as nose mask.
2 months ago i had to go to the hospital for a heart issue, A-fib, i was cardioverted in the hospital. At that time they also told me i have diabetes, and have for at least 3 months. Never thought i would. I mean i am a bit overweight at 54 years old and 6'2" & 264 lbs. So after a diet change, 2 months later i am at 236 lbs now, and going down each week. I am on some medication, blood thinner, and diabetes meds, plus my hyper tension meds and Cymbalta.
My wife says i have been snoring worse since this all happened, even though i lost almost 30 lbs. I asked my Sleep apnea center to send me a report, as my apap machine has built in cell phone and sends reports each day, i also have an app on my phone to view partial reports, however i never really know what they mean. I only look at AHI to hopefully see i am low, most of the time its below 4, but lately its been going up, not much but a bit, like 5, 5.5, and so on.
My wife also says i seem to be sleeping with my mouth open now, as i never did before?? So does that mean I primarily breath through my mouth then and the machine is not doing anything to help hence the snoring?I dont know...
To get an appointment with my sleep therapist takes a while and its a pain in the ass... so hopefully someone here can help me out determining my report and if i need to adjust my machine?
Can anyone tell me what my report says? and if its good or not so good? They emailed me a 90 day report, but i am more interested in the last 4 weeks.
You can view my report here.....

Thanks in advance for any comments.
Have a great Saturday!

Re: Can't make heads or tails of my sleep apnea report
Honestly, there's nothing useful in that report.
Get a copy of sleepyhead, load up the info from the SD card in your machine (you'll have to remove the cell modem to get at it) and post that. it's much more informative.
Instructions below, and in the READ THIS BEFORE POSTING post in the announcements section.

the link for what palerider suggested-
viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html
and if/when you do decide to post some charts, you can post them right here in this thread. once the experts here see your data, they can give advice that is tailor made to your particular situation.
we are all different and while there are some hard and fast rules that would apply to everyone, there may be some advice that will only come out when they see your data.
good luck!

To the OP:
Even though you're using your name, I suggest that you smudge it out in the report.

Re: Can't make heads or tails of my sleep apnea report
Turn off the pie chart....File/Preferences/Appearance and remove the check mark for "show pie chart".
We don't need or want all those graphs...Just do one screen shot with the basic graphs (flow rate, events, Leak and pressure) on the right side with the usual stuff on the left side minus the pie chart. There's no need for the snore graph since snores are flagged in the events graph.
No need to redo these images though...just mentioning it for future reference. In most cases all we need to see is easily put in one screen shot and if we want something else we can just ask.
How are you sleeping yourself? Soundly or do you have frequent wake ups?
While the snores aren't horribly horrible on the graphs...they must be enough to wake the wife up and her sleep is important also.
Ask her if you happen to be on your back when she notices you snoring. Wouldn't surprise me if she says yes because sometimes when we are on our backs the OSA gets worse and it takes a little more pressure to deal with things.
I suggest trying 1 cm more minimum pressure and see if the snores reduce further so that wife isn't being annoyed by them...and it probably will also clean up the report a little. Everything you see with the exception of the Clear Airway/Central apnea events is related to the airway trying to close. Using a little more minimum might just hold the airway open more optimally so that all those little indications of airway closing up don't happen as much.

Re: Can't make heads or tails of my sleep apnea report
Thanks for all the info Pugsy... I assume i an increase cm via the menu on the apap itself, no need to call my sleep therapist to do it for me?
I will check it out and see how it goes tonight ...
Lots of cool info i see in this sleepyHead program... i need to read up on how to interpret the readings better.
But over all am I doing ok? And what are the most important factors to keep an eye on when i check these report in the future?
Thanks again.

Too bad Sleepyhead does not have a button to only display what we really need.
Maybe the new team could work on that . . .

you know....that's not a bad idea. shouldn't be hard to program, says the guy who has never written a computer program in his life!chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 2:28 pmToo bad Sleepyhead does not have a button to only display what we really need.

One of the enhancements on the list is to make the default layout to be what's desired in a screenshot, and maybe put all the other stuff that just gets in the way under an 'advanced' tab... or something like.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 2:28 pmToo bad Sleepyhead does not have a button to only display what we really need.

Might not make it into the first version out, but it's on the list.
